- Wedding: July 2012
So, I had originally ordered two curved wedding bands – one for either side of my e-ring. But then after a few months, I started to re-think my decision. I love the double band look, but just felt like it wasn’t for me after all.
So then I found this band in a non-chain jewelry store at the mall, tried it on, and fell in love:
This is what it would look like (Photoshopped, because I didn’t get a pic at the store) with my e-ring:
I love that they “go” together, but that they’re a little mis-matched. I also love the blingy-ness of the diamonds being exposed (if that’s the right word) on all sides.
So I went back to our original jeweler and asked them if I could exchange my two bands for one that looked like the above. At first they gave me a little bit of pushback, but in the end, they agreed to take the existing rings, melt them down and custom make them into the new one I love. Perfect!
Well, I went on Saturday to see the finished ring, and while it is really pretty, I was disappointed on two accounts. First, it’s a bit wider than the one I had tried on in the mall store. But, that’s really only because the diamonds they used for mine are slightly bigger – so I guess that’s not the worst thing in the world! (Bling, bling!)
But the more bothersome thing for me is that, part of what I had fallen in love with about the mall ring was that the diamonds were exposed on all sides. There isn’t a metal “border” on the edges. Well, on the one they made me, there is. Again, I didn’t take a picture (I should have!) but it looks pretty much exactly like this:
So yes, still pretty, and very close, just not exactly what I thought I was getting. At this point I feel bad going back and voicing my displeasure for two reasons. One, because I already changed my mind once and I think they were annoyed with me over that; and two, because I didn’t say anything about my concerns over the new ring when I went there to look at it on Saturday.
That said, I did pay for them ($350 extra) to make this new ring, AND I am going to be wearing this ring for the rest of my life. So I should love it, right? I feel like I should just suck it up and go back in there and see if there’s any way they can remove that “border” and make it look more like the inspiration pic without the border. Otherwise, I might regret it. I just feel bad going back in there and being like, “So, on second thought, can we make some changes…?”
But what do you think? Go back and ask for the change to be made? Or leave it as-is?
Thanks in advance!!!
