Fiance wants to us to write our own vows which is totally fine with me, BUT he is much better at expressing his feelings in writing than I am. He is really into music – country specifically. And more specifically old country love songs. I was thinking about maybe using lyrics or titles of these songs to make up my vows. Is that just a cop out or unoriginal? Or do you think it’s a cute idea? My goal is to construct them so that most people would not realize I was quoting songs, but my fiance (and probably most of his family/friends) would understand where my words were from.

I think it is cute and meaningful and even if some guests don’t get it the fact that it has significance to you and your Fiance is what matters since these are your vows to each other.

I don’t think it’s cheesy, but I would be really hurt if I were your Fiance…I’d want your words, not someone else’s. That’s just me, though!

I think it’s cute and will be meaningful if you pick songs/words that the two of you recognize and relate to you and your relationship.
It’s not a cop-out at all. Sometimes songs express things better than we can, especially if you’re not certain how to put those feelings into your own words.
Trust me, I’m a writer and sometimes I have to rely on songs to express myself!

Hm, I think you just have to be careful that they’re heartfelt, not corny, but if done correctly it could be nice. I would also make it so that the majority of the vows are your words with just a few quotes sprinkled throughout. But I think it could be really cute.

I think it’s okay to use them woven with your own words but not just stringing lyrics together.
Its your wedding day, surely you have some thoughts you want to share with your partner!!!!

i say you write them out – or maybe start with a paragraph – and see where it taeks you and post it on here for us to judge! i think it could be super cute if you incorporate it into your own vows, esp if you end on your own words.. so lets try it out!

Thanks for the feedback! Yea – it definitely wouldn’t be made of ALL song lyrics.
@MsMonkey: I understand where you’re coming from! But I don’t think he would be hurt at all, I think he’d be really touched that I incorporated something like that into them. That is definitely something to think about though!
Let me maybe write a few lines and see how it looks. I’ll post later!

Do you have a song? Perhaps you could pull lines from the song and use the lyrics interspersed with your own words to tell him how you feel?
PS – I am doing similar and it is tough – I can relate! Our song is Forever and Ever, Amen, but Randy Travis.
