She’s probably a little more traditionalist than you.  Some people like the tension setting, some don’t.  I know that John Atencio (who started in Colorado) has a few tension-setting rings, and they’re pretty amazing.  It’s very architectural, which is definitely cool, in my opinion.

I think it’s totally unique and interesting.  I would only have two concerns:  1) how secure is the diamond.  I’ve never looked at a tension setting, so I would just be nervous.  I know my diamond came loose after a year and I have a 4-prong setting.  2) Do you want to wear your wedding band at the same time as your e-ring, and what would that look like.

 Otherwise I absolutely love it!

I do like it a lot, but then I also have a non-traditional engagement ring.

I’d love it more if it was white gold/silver but that’s because Gold & I don’t mix! LOL
Like someone else said if you and your Fiance like it then who cares what other people think? LOL 🙂

I think it’s very pretty and unique. If it suits you, then that’s all that matters

You might also want to check out this set from Brilliant Earth (They also have it in white gold here). It’s got that curved feel of the ring, but it has prongs.  And it also has a wedding band that fits with that unique shape.

You can also do that style with a bezzel set (gold comes up around the diamond). I don’t know where to find it online but a friend has it and it’s beautiful (in yellow gold too).

If you like it is all that matters. Don’t start re-thinking what you want now because you’ll just end up doing that with everything as you plan your wedding. Many people are going to have different opinions – and they’re entitled to their opinion – just don’t disregard what you want because someone else doesn’t like it.

I like it!  I wanted one in that style, but my fiance didn’t like it, so I didn’t get it.  Who cares what your friend thinks.

we saw tension setting rings… i personally thought it was kind of scary to have your ring set in with only tension

but hey if you like, than go for it.  I have a bezel setting and some people think that’s ugly but heck i love my ring!  ^_^

I have a tension-set ring, and I LOVE IT! I think the tension setting allows more light to get under the diamond, and makes it more sparkley 🙂 Here’s a pic:

I absolutely love it. I ended up choosing something very traditional, because I knew that as time passed I would always, always adore my ring. Occasionally styles fade. But that particular style that you chose is gorgeous and simple and elegant, and if you love it now you’ll probably love it forever.

And, seriously, how could anyone think that it’s ugly? Non-traditional, yes… ugly, no.
