I’ve always seen the couple cut the cake after they enter the reception.  That way, the servers can slice & plate the cake while people are eating their dinner.  Totally normal.

Depending on the weather, I’d be worried about the slices getting dried out while waiting for you to finish dinner.

I would say it’s totally fine.

Either way would be fine imo. But last couple weddings I have been to, it has been after the meal.

Cant they do it after the meal, so that the cake doesn’t go dry esp if it is for desert. Surely they have enough staff to get it cut and taken out quickly.

It was recommended to me to do this as well.  For those who have gone to a wedding where it happened before the meal, what was the transition?  That’s the part I’m having issues wrapping my mind around.

Like you come in the doors and then immediately go cut the cake?  Is there anything said by the MC?

We are planning on making our entrance, then having our first dance. One the first dance is completed then we will cut the cake and then eat dinner….Hopefully no one thinks it is too weird, but i dont want to have a huge lapse after dinner while we are waiting for the cake to come out..

Is there a sheet cake in the back that they are going to cut into? or do they mean the actual cake?

I do not think it will be bad to cut it after dinner, it dosn’t take very long… I usually do not want my desert right after anyway.

We cut our cake as soon as we arrived to our dinner.  The DJ announced us as husband and wife, my dad gave a toast, and we cut the cake.  Then the dinner began.  Made complete sense!

That’s not weird at all! A lot of people do that. I’m waiting until after the meal to cut our cake, because we’re doing a buffet so I want people to be able to look at the cake as they walk by it in the buffet line 🙂 (And most of our cake will be Costco sheet cakes, so the caterer won’t have too much to cut too quickly.)

I’ve never seen it done before the meal but I wouldn’t think it was weird or anything.

That happened at the last wedding I attended and it didn’t seem strange at all.
