well, caffine makes it harder for your body to absorb certain vitamins and minerals like vit D and iron, so if I were TTC, I would try to stay away from things that my body would need to support a healthy pregnancy and baby.  Not to mention, if you plan to cut back when you are pregnancy anyway, I would start now to make the transition to less caffine easier.

Before TTC I drank about 3 cups of coffee per day. I went cold turkey when I got my bfp and it was rough. I’d start cutting back on the caffeine but I’m in the drink til it’s pink club as far as EToH.

I haven’t cut down on caffeine, but I only have about 2 coffees a day – sometime 3. When I get pregnant I’ll drop to one.

As for alcohol, I’m not a huge drinker – only a drink or two here and there. I probably try to drink less during the TWW – generally not more than a glass.

I have actually spent the week debating on making the EXACT same post about alcohol/caffeine. I looked up some information on UpToDate this morning. (If you’re not familiar with UpToDate, it’s probably the most used database by healthcare providers.)

“Most observational studies have reported moderate and heavy female drinkers tend to take longer to achieve a pregnancy and are at higher risk of undergoing an infertility evaluation. Others have not noted an adverse effect of moderate alcohol intake on fertility, nor a difference in risk of ovulatory dysfunction between women with high versus low alcohol intake. Moderate alcohol consumption <2 drinks/day probably has no or minimal adverse effects on fertility, but higher levels of alcohol consumption should probably be avoided when attempting pregnancy”

” Female fertility does not appear to be affected by caffeine intake less than 200 mg per day; therefore, women contemplating pregnancy probably can have one or two 6 to 8 ounce cups of coffee per day without impairing their ability to conceive.”

Honestly, if I were just starting TTC, I would do whatever I want barring the extreme binge-drinking or multiple 5-hr energy shots. If you’re like most women, you’ll get pregnant quickly and have no problem whether you stress out over caffeine or not. At 7 cycles TTC, I went to decaf coffee, but still drink a few caffeinated sodas a week plus around 1 beer/week. Now, at 14 cycles TTC, I was considering cutting alcohol/caffeine cold turkey, but given my morning’s research I think that’s unnecessary.

sfp:  Yes, a regular mug. No problem. I hope it helps! And good luck with the coffee. Drinking decaf really isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. You still get to drink as many cups as you want. And thank you! That is so kind!

I got pregnant first try and both of us drank both quite a bit. eh. I heard it also decreases a man’s sperm to drink caffeine.

I’m having this same debate. We just started TTC, and we were on vacay in hawaii so basically I’m going about my normal caffeine/alcohol consumption until/unless I get a bfp this cycle. We’ll be starting whole 30 on June 1st so I won’t be having any alcohol next cycle (assuming no bfp) and probably minimal coffee because I can’t drink black coffee. =/

200 mg of caffeine has been deemed “safe” and you’re probably over that with five cups a day. I’d try and drop it down to two cups Now, so that youre not dealing with caffeine withdrawal in addition to first tri symptoms!

Equine_Breeder:  I wish I had cut back on caffeine for that reason! I miss it so bad!
