We haven’t met with our priest yet but I was wondering if anyone knows if we can cut mass short??? We are on a time constraint and wanted to cut the mass to 40-45 min.
Does anyone know if this is possible??

Have you thought about not doing a full mass and just having the ceremony? That’d fit the timing.

We’re not doing full Mass. It’s saving a ton of time. Also we picked some of the shortest readings. Hey, every minute counts, right?

you can opt not to have a full mass, like the previous poster said, but there are ways to trim it down and still have a full mass if that’s what you want. you can choose readings/prayers that aren’t too long and instead of inviting all your guests to receive communion, you can limit it to just you and your groom.

I think your only option is to skip the mass. I get where you are coming from but I cannot imagine it going over well if you asked your priest to rush it.

thanks guys!! this helps a lot. I had no idea how crazy chicago was! I booked the church with one year time in between the booking and wedding and there was hardly any times left so we were stuck with a 5 oclock mass and a reception venue that was timed for 6-12. so i feel like there is a huge time crunch- esp since we are korean-americans and there is a korean cultural part during the reception.

@chicagobride610: Priests can actually alter the length of the liturgy a fair bit, so if you talk to the priest about your time constraint, he might be flexible. (eg, he can try and have a shorter homily, and use the shortest eucharistic prayer if you’re having a mass.)
