I think nobody would be able to tell that it’s a CZ unless you told them!
If it’s supposed to be the best diamond immitation, then it probably looks fine. No one here can really tell anything from a photo anyways. CZ is pretty inexpensive anyways, isnt it? If you end up hating it, no big loss and you can find another stone.
I think right now it looks fine. But it’s not going to look like that in a year or so unless you clean it daily and/or hardly ever wear it.
@CollegeBee3: A CZ is pretty, but beware that it is not a tough, strong, ect as a diamond. So eventually you will have to change it out, but that really is no biggy cause they are only a few bucks. I would suggest getting jewelery cleaner, because CZ’s can begin to look cloudy, but once you clean it they are like brand new. I have CZ earings and I just make sure they are clean and no one can ever tell they are not diamonds. I hope this post helps. 🙂
@deetroitwhat: Yep! The seller assured me the stone will last, and that it is not going to cloud or chip. So we’ll see. It’s an 8.5 on the Maid/Matron of Honor scale. I still bought a back up though (cheap!). And we’re also pretty interested in Amora Gem if we ever want to “upgrade”. Just hoping the finished ring is beautiful.
@CollegeBee3: I had a diamond coated CZ and it needed to be replaced after about 1 1/2 yrs. I know with cleaning it will “last” but I was cleaning my stone in the morning and would have to clean it by the afternoon too.
So if you do plan on switching it out, get the cheapest CZ possible. Don’t waste your money on anything else!
@CollegeBee3: It’s pretty! Nobody will be able to tell what it is unless you choose to tell them. I would love to see your setting, I really love rose gold.
Also, you’re correct, CZ is harder on the MOH’s scale than many gemstones used in e-rings that people intend to last a lifetime. My mom had a CZ cocktail ring she wore daily for 20 years, and as long as she kept it clean it looked just as shiny as the day she got it. It was just as shiny as her diamonds, too.
Also, I have a gorgeous pair of CZ earrings, had them over 10 years – not a bit cloudy.
@Sunfire: Thanks for the information! I’m a bit OCD, so keeping the CZ clean won’t be an issue for me. BF told me that the finished ring is set to be picked up FRIDAY!! I will definitely post pictures (whenever I get her!). Personally so glad rose gold is “in” now — it looks fab with my skin tone.
@CollegeBee3: I have diamonds and I clean them obsessively, too. Not because I’m OCD but because I’m addicted to the sparkles. I love sparkly things, doesn’t matter what it is. 🙂
Can’t wait to see the pics! I have a rose gold RHR (with morganite), love it!
I think it looks good in the pictures. DH and i were just saying the other day that we should have gotten CZ instead of spending so much money on a diamond. You guys are doing it the smart way!
@Sunfire: OOO. I love morganite and rose gold ring combinations!
And I hear ya on sparkles >:)
@Holocene: Thank you! We explored and researched all type of stones (diamonds, moissanite, different grades of CZ) at different price points (online, brick-and-mortar stores, privately owned jeweler) before we decided.
