I feel you!! I am not in love with the song my dad picked either…I thought it was kinda boring and predicable but he loved it so much it was WAY too cute to care about what I thought. Its only 3 mins. my thoughts are let your dad have this one thing then hold your ground on whatever else : )

I think it’s somewhat expectd that the father/daughter dance is somewhat cheesy and I can’t even remember the song chosen for any of the weddings I’ve been to. So, I’d personally let my dad have his choice and then you have more room to put your foot down on other matters you disagree on.

I think it’s kind of cute your dad likes that song actually. We were going to use “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica, but ended up using “My Girl” because Dad and Grandma thought it would be more appropriate…lol. I thought it was totally lame, but it made my Dad happy and that’s all that mattered ๐Ÿ™‚

I LOVE his pick.  Personally I think some of your picks are ones I see more often so his pick is pretty original.  I’m still listening to it now and I just love what it says.

I don’t think it’s any cheesier than any of the songs you sent him. That is not to say your picks are cheesy but more that most of the quintessential father/daughter songs have a certain expected amount of cheesyness anyway. I’d probably let him have it as I think it’s sweet that he went out on his own and found one that spoke to him. ๐Ÿ™‚

I can imagine my dad doing the same thing… picking something corny. But I can’t imagine saying no to him because he is just cheesy in general. He would be so upset if he couldn’t use the song he wanted. Oh well! ๐Ÿ™‚

OK SO not to be a downer .. BUT… MY dad died when I was 12. I am 38 and finally getting married. I so wish my dad could be there to walk me down the isle or dance with me! Be happy you have a father to pick corny songs!!!! You should honor him by giving him that song… ANd most men wouldnt even have a clue what song to dance too.. Be happy he knows what he likes. It would probably mean so much to him!!! Have fun!!!

I don’t think it’s more corny than some of the choices you sent him. Butterfly Kisses is right up there…

I think you should give him this one.  I agree about not wanting to do a corny song, but it’s inherantly a corny moment, and I think it’s fine.  If it matters to him, let him pick the song.  My dad and I are dancing to “God Only Knows,” and while it’s not a common father/daughter dance pick, the lyrics are corny as hell!  But it’s special to us, so we’re happy about it.

ETA – I do love the idea of Sweet Melissa if he named you after it though.  But if he doesn’t want that one, then oh well.

I love that song, but I am a huge Michael Bolton fan also (have been since I was a little girl)

I think this song is beautiful and if it means somthing to your dad, you should go with it!

Honestly…and I don’t want to be rude but “Butterfly Kisses” is kinda cheesy and VERY predictable!  It’s a great song, makes me cry everytime I hear it BUT it’s soooo predictable….ask any DJ!  lol

I would go with the dad pick. And “My Little Girl” makes me BAWL every time.
