Dad and I have been arguing over the father-daughter song for weeks now. Every time one of us comes up with an idea, the other one shoots it down. We just can’t seem to agree! Well, now it’s getting down to it and we have to choose today. I had made a suggestion based on songs I was forced to listen to a lot growing up, and he shot that down but responded with “how about Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’ since we made you listen to that one so much growing up, and it’s great for a father-daughter moment?”
I agree with him — it’s a great song, the lyrics are beautiful, and I definitely WAS forced to listen to it a lot growing up. It was one of the CDs that lived in their six-disc changer, and I could sing along every word. So in theory, it’s perfect. The only problem is, I don’t like that song. It irritates me. It’s the kind of song where if it came on the radio, I’d change the station.
Should I just suck it up and say yes to this one?? Dad seems excited about the idea, and I highly doubt we’ll come up with a song that has as much personal sentiment attached (even if, for me, it’s a somewhat negative personal sentiment haha). The other ideas he suggested in the same email are songs I’m not even familiar with. Fi and his mom are dancing to Desperado because his mom used to sing it to him all the time when he was little. I’d be sad if my Dad and I didn’t have a similar cute story for our song!
Oh if only I just LIKED that song, this would be a no-brainer!!!!!
