Hello Dallas Ladies!
I am new to the boards and I just got engaged back in March. We have been dating for over 7 years, so we already have hit the ground running for planning our June 2012 wedding. We started the venue search and are having trouble finding something. We are looking for somewhere that we can have the ceremony and reception so that people don’t have to drive between.
We are trying to have a Sunday Brunch wedding. Ideally, I’d like to have it in or in close proximity to uptown/downtown Dallas. We have a lot of out of state people that would be flying in and feel that is the best area for them to have other things to do if they make it a longer trip.
Well, I guess I’m having sticker shock basically! I had some places tell me they had food & bev minimums of $13k (not to mention their 20% service charge and sales tax!). Any ideas for venues where we can get the venue rental and food, tax, and service charge (and all the other miscellaneous charges) for 125 people for under $10k? It is Sunday brunch, so I thought it would be much cheaper than this… I thought we had a good budget until I started getting all this information on food minimums back.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!

Can you give some more info about what style of venue you’re looking for? (modern, traditional, outdoor, hotel, etc.) I looked at several spaces when I was looking so I could probably make some recommendations if I had an idea of what kind of feel you are going for….

I’m getting married at the Filter Building at White Rock Lake. It is $2500 for 8 hours. Unfortunately when I contacted them in December, they did not have many dates left. I found this to be the case for several of the cheaper places. But if yours is a Sunday brunch you might have better luck. The only thing with the Filter building is you have to use an approved caterer. It seats up to 200 though and you can get married outside by the lake and have the reception indoors or outdoors.
Texas Discovery Gardens
Madi Museum in Uptown
Times Ten Cellars in Lakewood
Most of those are east Dallas. I couldn’t afford anything in uptown/downtown area, so I stopped looking at those.

Here’s a second vote for the Dallas Arboretum – they have several packages available.
My FH & I are planning our wedding on a much smaller budget (~$4k or less, if possible) because a) we have family & friends all over the world & across the US b) I personally think it’s ridiculous to spend a ton of money on a day, when that money could be put towards a down payment on a house. (If you can’t tell, I’m an older bride & I’ve had plenty of friends who spent a small fortune on their wedding day, who only end up getting divorced less than a year later.)

You should check out Edison’s. Its off Lamar and right outside of downtown. They are fabulous.
