I will get up and dance no matter what. I’m sure most people won’t notice.

On the plus side, people ALWAYS spill drinks (even if it’s just a bit sloshing around in their cup when dancing), so wood floors get slippery and sticky very fast. A rug dance floor would help prevent that!

@serendipity9.8:  Haha yeah same with my group! I was at our friends’ wedding two weeks ago and I feel like I was constantly slipping on spilled vodka-tonics… lol

I would prefer dancing on a wood floor. It would seem really weird to me that there was no hard area to dance on. I always feel awkward and like we aren’t meant to dance if I’m on carpet.

I vote for the wooden dance floor.  Personally I would dance no matter what, but I’m not certain about other people.  Plus I think having a real dance floor makes it seem more “official”.

A lot of venues actually require a dance floor be placed on carpeted areas because the wear and tear of people’s shoes on carpet really destroys the carpet quickly! Plus, spilled drinks would really damage or stain the carpeting, and then the cleaning charges would likely be taken out of your deposit!
