(Closed) Dare I clean my reception dress myself before my wedding?

I think they have to say Dry Clean Only to cover their butts in case something goes wrong.  But honestly, I’ve had dry cleaners ruin things too!  IME most things that are polyester can be hand washed if done very gently.  I think that for your dress, you might be better off hand washing, since it’s such a delicate dress with so many layers.  I can imagine a dry cleaner (unless you have one who really knows what they are doing!) ruining that dress by trying to clean and press the layers.

I would do a patch test first–like try and take an inconspicuous part of the organza fabric, dip it in water, and see if it changes the texture or color.  Then watch it as it dries to make sure it doesn’t collapse or turn into shredded Kleenex.  I think, since the dress is polyester, you might be ok just handwashing it very carefully.  Good luck, whatever you decide to do!

Bleh, sorry about that!  Are the edges of the tulle raw?  This might make them pick up more dust when agitated in the wash.
