I’m about to buy a whole bunch of metallic purple envelopes for my lovely save the dates and just thought of something…. does the post office have any rules about colored evelopes?! my envelopes are pretty dark –
now, both the “to” and “from” addresses will definitely be legible b/c I’ll have label wraps that I’ll stick on the envelopes… but I’m worried about them getting postmarked. I honestly don’t know if the black ink they normally use would show up?! Does anyone know if the post office has rules about this? I’d hate for my Save-The-Date Cards to get rejected and sent back to me!! 🙁
Thanks In Advance for any advice.

I used dark blue envelopes for our invitations and metallic ink. We did a trial run to make sure that it wasn’t going to be illegible, and found that it would all work just fine.

My friend used black envelopes with white labels and it worked just fine. I think as long as the address is legible, the post office is cool with whatever color envelope you use.

thanks doctorgirl… trial run is a good idea! did u actually stick an evelope in the mail and send it to yourself to see if it would work ok? it’s not the address i worry about being legible – it’s the post office’s stupid postmark!
ddubzz – thanks for sharing. i guess i should be ok if someone else did black envelopes!

You should be fine. Our envelopes were dark blue and they mailed with no problem. I might be imaginging this but I think the post office can use either red or black ink to do a postmark, and one or the other should show up on your envelopes.

We sent it to ourselves, just to be sure. Maybe overkill, but I was really hesitant about the metallic ink. As far as the cancellation, as long as it can be seen on the stamp, you should be ok!

You should be fine. I’ve mailed both black and navy envelopes with no problems.
They’ll be beautiful!

Mine were black envelopes and they were fine!

You should be fine. As you can see, many Bees have chosen the colored envelope for their invitations and have not heard anything wrong about them. If the addresses are legible, that really is all that matters. They are beautiful by the way.

You should be fine! I used a very dark green and a black pen to address and I had no problems! happy mailings!

They’ll be fine. The post office just sticks a little white sticker on them on the back with their barcode and that’s that. Our Save-The-Date Cards were dark dark teal and we sent ourselves a copy with everyone elses for a keepsake. It came back fine. 🙂
