JCrew has dresses in a colour called “spiced wine.” I was going to choose a more lavender-ish colour for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, but I’m warming up to this one. Plus my BMs seem to prefer it.
What do you think? Is it too dark for an evening wedding in July? The ceremony will be outdoors (weather permitting) at sunset. Our invitations will say “cocktail attire.” The flowers will, I think, be bright pink and orange, if that helps. We’re talking 5 or 6 bridesmaids (long story – one may be added later) in different style dresses in the same colour (hopefully).

I had dark purple and orange for my colors. Granted it was in September which isn’t exactly summer but I LOVED the way the colors contrasted!

My main color will be dark purple for my July 30 wedding! I love it, and as far as bridesmaid dresses, I think this color will be more flattering on most people than lavendar would be.

Those dresses look lovely and will be great for an evening wedding!

Of course not! It’s a beautiful color for a July wedding.
But I’m a little biased because my wedding was July of this year and one of our colors was a royal purple. 😉

It’s perfect!!! Go with it! And the bright pink and orange flowers…oh my gawd…to die for!! You have good taste!

I LOVE this color. Love it so much in fact that I will be using it for my main wedding color as well – and I am a July bride too! I think I am going to bring a bit of summer into it by adding pops of bright yellow into my flowers and centerpieces.

Thanks for the input everyone! I appreciate it.

I really love your color scheme and I think it will work in July. Summer is a time for vibrant colors and those are bright and sunny enough. If your purple were darker or had more gray in it I would say it would be more suited for fall, but what you have works for summer. From the two dresses you posted I think the second one is better for July because the fabric looks thinner and livelier, almost like a flower petal. The first one is stiffer, which I would associate more with fall.

I think any color looks great any time of year, so I’m in the Maybe I’m confused boat 😀

I really love that first dress. I think that color works! Lots of flowers that color might still be blooming in July… I def. think it works.

I’m planning on doing something in the summer and think it’s a great color and a really cute dress!

Ive seen dark purple would really work if you give your ladies a bright flower like yellow sunflowers to hold…very pretty I think!

it’s a pretty vibrant purple and will work well for summer i think!

Im having a less-than-formal beach wedding and my colors are plum purple and a pale sage green accent. I think purple is great for a summer wedding 🙂
