smuphy90 :  I would just call him. I made soooo much progress with communicating what I wanted after a 5 minute phone conversation.

12_Elle :  I live in Germany, so I can’t without paying through the nose, unfortunately.

If you have Skype, you can charge some money to your account and call his phone over Skype. I do that because I live in Japan and want to call my grandma who doesn’t have anything but an old landline phone.

I finally got engaged!! David did such an amazing job on my ring. He made it exactly like how I wanted.

smuphy90 :  What a bummer for you. There are several threads her and one on PS about it being hard to communicate with DK right now. I think he is super busy. No excuse though. I think your mock-up is very very clear. I hope that you get a great next CAD.

Hey guys! Still no word from DK since my last email with the mock-up photos but I wanted some input on something:

IF I ever get the design to be the shape I want it to be, what is everyone’s opinion of cutting out the side stones alltogether and just getting engraving? I’m not great at envisioning concepts like that, so I thought I’d ask for opinions.

I’m in the minority where DK’s quote was actually higher for me than any other company’s and since I’ve just increased my shank width by an entire mm, I’m sure it’ll add to the cost for the side stones. I love the look, but I don’t care about it being super blingy. It would cut the cost down which I’m always in favor of.

Any thoughts?

Okay. Sure enough, after ranting a bit to you all, I got a new CAD today and it is MUCH better. The twist issue is fixed.

Now I’m at a bit of a cross-roads:

Option 1:
Opt for engraving instead of all side stones, to save on cost. I don’t mind losing the bling. My only concern is whether I’ll like the look as much, which unfortunately I won’t really be able to know.

Option 2: Engraving the shank, but keeping the skirt of small diamonds on the center. (I’d have him make them all straight at the very bottom of the head; not slanted down as they are now.) Not sure how this would flow either. =/

Option 3: Keep the diamonds and just have him level out the smaller diamonds on the head so they don’t slant down.

Thoughts? Any opinions are welcome!

Here’s the newest CAD:

1111makeawish :  I guess that’s what I’m leaning toward. Mostly because I KNOW I like the look with side stones, but I don’t know if I would the engraving. Mostly it’s a cost thing, though BF never had a budget in mind and approved the DK quote already.

I already responded to him asking about bringing the skirt of diamonds back down to the bottom and also asked him to add a sapphire to one corner of the euro shank. 🙂 I was going to incorporate several in the side-stones, but decided that was too much color. Tucking one secret one in the bottom seems lovely. 🙂

Anyone think I have a shot of getting a reply from DK? I emailed a few days ago about working on a simple design. I’ve read on here that they’re super busy and the turnaround time on communication could take awhile. I was just hoping to hash it out with him and then pass the reins to my boyfriend (who’s totally on board with handling it this way; tell me someone else has done this with DK?).

I have another online vendor on board to combine two of their designs, but I was really hoping that DK’s quote would be comparable with the added bonus of his creative genius and beautiful craftsmanship!

smuphy90 :  I actually like the ring with the stones aiming downward as it flows from the shank. The difference will be so tiny that it will look grate either way.  But, you have to love the ring.

I think it would be fine without the diamonds, but I also think you love this…why chance it. I know you are above budget, but hopefully that can be offset in other way on wedding stuff.

Its going to be a really pretty and highly wearable ring. You will love it!

spendabuck85 :  You should certainly try. If the design is very simple, are you SURE you need to go custom? I love my custom ring, but it is not always easy. If you post your ideas and stone size/shape, maybe we can help?
