I purchased a sample dress from David’s bridal for a great deal and thankfully I found this website and opted for the much cheaper alterations option of a private seamstress (saving 250!). Can you still get the bead check and steam clean if you go somewhere else? If not does anybody know why? What if you didn’t need alteration (or said so at least?)Obviously I’ll have to get it steamed again after alterations but there is 2 loose beads that I would love to get repaired for free (although hopefully the seamstress won’t charge much for that)

@lfranke: I’m not sure about the bead check but DB told me that when I bought my dress I needed to make sure I got alterations there simply because I couldn’t return it to get it steam cleaned as they wouldn’t be reliable for any problems that happened before it got brought in. I guess they’ve had people call in who couldn’t find someone to steam it after fixing it. Hope it helps.

DB told me that if anyone else (vendor wise – ie tailor, seamstress, pressing, steaming, etc) touched my dress that I would not be able to get my bead check and steaming at DB. Bascially, the dress has to be in the identical condition that they sold it to you as.
I didn’t really care because I’ve heard such terrible things about DB’s tailoring and had a private tailor that my family has used for years and years. I wasn’t letting DB do my tailoring despite not being able to get the steam/bead check. Your tailor should be able to do a bead check for you and fix any loose ones for little to nothing.
