Hi Bees! It’s getting to that time where I need to think about alterations. We’re all settled in our new house, so I suppose I should get back into busying myself with wedding planning. 😉
My question is: If you bought your dress from DB, did you use them for alterations or did you go elsewhere? I’ve seen mixed reviews from years past, but I know things change. I’m up in the air, because I’ve heard they make up all their money in alterations. I don’t want to pay double/triple what I paid for my dress. Mine needs taken in a huge amount and probably a bustle. Also, would you even worry about a bustle? I’m literally having the ceremony on the dune right outside the hotel and then having dinner inside (no dancing or anything). Thanks ladies! 🙂

I bought my dress from DB and the alterations were going to be almost as much as my dress! I used a seamstress and paid less than $100 to remove the train, hem and change a ballet neckline to a sweetheart. I also wanted her to change it from a zipper back to corset and she talked me out of it. Wish I had done the corset back-my dress was too big around the hips by the time I got married.
There was another post about this-search and Im sure you’ll find more info from other bees.

I didn’t buy my dress from DB but the consultant told me to leave up to $400-500 for alterations. Other bridal stores told me that alterations would cost a maximum of $200 with their seamstress…so I think DB is on the high end. If you can take it elsewhere, I would.

I had my alterations done and bought my dress at davids.. I would suggest NOT doing alterations with them. They did an excellent job on my dress and it was beyond perfect but cost entirely too much. My dress was just over $600 and then alterations were $425 :/ I was worried something would go wrong (as my wedding planning was jinxed I swear haha) so I decided to go with them. definitely look around, i have many friends who spent just over $100 on theirs.

Thank you ladies!!! Yeah, mine was around $600 and I don’t want to pay a ton of money if I don’t have to. Mine is already a corset back, so I got lucky with that part. I just need it taken in, for the most part. I feel like DB would be pushy about things I “needed” and wanted to get some opinions from bees who have been there before.

DB was pricey but they did an excellent job on my gown and reception dresses.
If you can find a seamstress that you trust then you can probably get a better deal though. I just didnt have one so I went with DB.

I went to DB, and I met with another seamstress who was cheaper, but she ended up flaking out on me, so I went back to DB. It’s more expensive than a regular seamstress, but if they mess it up, they will fix it free.

Yeah, I was in the fashion design program here, so I know a few, I am kind of weary because of the guarantee with DB, but if they do a good job, I may just suck it up. My wedding is the one thing I won’t skimp on. I know it’ll be worth every penny in the end.
