I found Bridal Warehouse didn’t put a lot of importance on my appointment. I don’t expect to be treated like the queen, but leaving me wandering without a consultant for a half hour after my scheduledappointment. they didn’t help me on with dresses…

I’m glad you finally had a pleasant experience with the smaller boutique!

I had a great experience at David’s Bridal, but I seem to be in the minority. I made an appointment for about 11 am on a Thursday when I was pretty sure there wouldnt be much other business. Our consultant was very friendly and helpful. Towards the end of the appointment the store was getting busy and she had another bride, but no problems. I went back Sunday morning to show my mother and Future Mother-In-Law the dresses I liked and while the were a little busier, I had the same consultant and had another great experience. I guess it depends on timing and the staff of your local store. Sorry it wasn’t great for you, but glad you found your dress in the end!

My appointment at David’s Bridal for my niece (yes, we made her an appointment) was rather mixed.  But I do have some sympathy for our consultant;  my sister and I are can be very gung ho when we’re on a mission and we’d been shopping all day.  We really didn’t need much other than being pointed to the dresses and the changing room, but I did want my niece to have a non-relative’s opinion as she tried on dresses.  But after the consultant set us up with a room, she literally disappeared–and had no dress clips, which I can hardly believe in any bridal store. I didn’t want my niece to feel any more self-conscious than she needed to be.

However, once we found the dress, the woman at the counter did a great job finding it at another store in my color in a size up, and offering to have it shipped up to my sister’s.

I had a great experience there, even though I didnt purchase my dress from them (which I actually feel guilty about cause the lady was so nice!) I made an appointment for a weekday though at 2pm, so there was hardly any people there. They made me feel welcomed as soon as I came in, they pulled the dresses that they had available from my list and then the consultant pulled some that she thought I would like.

The place I bought my dress from (an independant store) were not nearly as helpful, did not help me in my dresses and didnt seem to care as much. But I just fell in love with my dress.

I also had a decent experience at David’s Bridal. I made an appointment for Saturday (had no other choice if I wanted my mom to go with me), they were helpful and I was the only bride my consultant had. It was crowded, which I expected, and it was also a little hot, but I dealt with it. My only complaint was with the cashiers there. I stood in front of the register for 15 minutes trying to get someone’s attention and they just ignored me.

In the end though, I ended up with my dress.

I went to David’s Bridal recently and purchased a reception dress there on a limited budget. It was a very different experience from the place where I bought my main dress. A lot of the dresses for sale on the floor were damaged, which I found quiet shocking. A lot of ripped zippers and missing hooks etc and these were on the regular racks, not marked down. The changing rooms were very small, cramped and quite dirty. The local boutique had large changing rooms, helped you into the dresses and helped you to walk over to the mirror area by picking up the train so that the dresses stayed clean and in great condition. Another place had everyone leave their shoes at the door to keep the dresses presitine on the hem.

Also, in general, I was surprised by the lack of quality in some of the dresses. The overall designs were still lovely, but the fabrics were cheaper and not finished as well, but the prices were comparible to the place I bought my dress. I know it has a reputation as a place for more affordable dresses, but I would make sure that you cannot get as good a deal elsewhere for a higher quality, made to order, item before buying.

Same with the bridemaids dresses, I only paid a little more for good quality fabric compared to the price of the polyester dresses at David’s. I do have to say, the consultant was very helpful and I got my reception dress ordered there. Overall though, I would check out local places before a big chain every time. You get more personal service and usually a better price. We got a custom wedding ring for a bargin from a local jewlery after Kay’s etc quote large prices for the same thing.

David’s treated me great, but what they didn’t do is treat my bridal party well at all. I selected the dresses without the bridal party present. Sent them an email and told them what to go buy. I went in with one of them a few days later to buy her dress and they were rude, dismissive, didn’t help her find the dress nor the size, just unlocked a fitting room and the sales rep disappeared. Didn’t help her zipper (glad I was there), she forgot her shoes, the lady got a pair and dropped them at the fitting room door. I ended up ripping her a new one in front of everyone.

When it was all said and done I reminded them that the bridesmaids spent more money at David’s combined than I did. THEY made their commission checks fat, I for damn sure didn’t

@erinbacher:  Unfortunately, I had BM’s all over the country (in 5 different states), so I needed to be able for them to go to a national chain so we wouldn’t have to rely solely on measurements and then have all the “OH NO IT DOESN’T FIT” problems. For us, it was either David’s or Alfred Angelo and Davids won simply because they were 1/2 mile from my house and I didn’t feel like I wanted to go across town to hunt for a dress people are going to wear once.
