I bought my dress at David’s Bridal back in December, and just got a call from them, checking in and seeing if I wanted to come in for alterations or get "my girls" ready [they probably think my wedding is this October, not next October!].
Anyway, I’m not going to be bringing my dress in for alterations for another year or so, but I do have it in hand, and I have since lost the receipt (oops). When it is time – should I bring it back to DB, or somewhere else?
I’m really just concerned about the bustle, as it’s a pick up skirt, and I would LOVE to have a corset back put in (instead of the zipper), which makes me think it may be better to bring it to DB, where they’ve worked on my exact dress before. So – to alter at DB or to alter elsewhere?

I have my dress from David’s too and I’m getting the alterations done there for the exact reason you said — they’ve worked on this exact dress before, so they know what is best with it. Also, putting in a corset back adds fabric and if you get it done there, you can be sure they’re using the same fabric as your dress. They might let you order the panel and take it elsewhere to have it put in, if you decide to go that route, though.
They’ve started my alterations but I haven’t seen the finished product yet. Adding the corset back to mine was about $150 for materials and labor. Of course, I was adding mine because I have a really disproportionately large chest and she is using more material than she’d normally use for a corset back, so yours will probably be less expensive. I’m sure I could have shopped around and found a seamstressto do it for a little less, but I felt more comfortable having them do it. Plus, I figure if they screw it up majorly, they will have to replace the dress, right? 😉
