what about just finding a seemstress or alterations place in town? its worth a try to go look at dresses at DB and try them on. hopefully you wont need many adjustments but if you do a local alterations place should be able to do the trick – that way you dont have to drive all the way back to DB – i think the bridal salons tend to jack up alteration costs anyway.

I bought my dress from David’s Bridal.  I will have the alterations done by a private seamstress.

I’m have a pretty small wedding so David’s Bridal was perfect choice to find a dress I loved within our budget.

I bought my dress at a David’s Bridal and was able to get it altered elsewhere… I didn’t want to use DB b/c I know they are outrageous in their costs, for even minor adjustments.

You shouldn’t have a problem finding another place where you live to do it. Just make some phone calls to make sure they aren’t swamped around the time you’ll be doing your fittings =)… ie. Prom was the same weekend as my wedding so I got with the seamstress a little early so we could get started 😉

@Anxiouspeanut: i dont believe so – i think its soley based on size – other bridal salons will measure you and send your measurements in but i think DB does it soley based on the size of the dress that fits you best, then you make an appointment to come in once the dress has arrived to do proper alterations. DB has some beautiful dresses though at a fairly inexpensive cost compared to some designers so its worth it to try and find a seamstress near you – i didnt buy my dress from DB but a similar store and then i searched my area for alteration stores that got good reviews for wedding dresses.

I purchased my gown from DB but had alterations done by a private tailor. Once you ahve the dress I really can’t imagine what else you’d need to contact them for.  I have to tell you, though, I wore a VERY popular (on the hive) DB gown, but everybody was complimenting me, asking where I got such a beautiful gown.  People say DB looks cheap, DB is too common, etc…but none of my guests thought that.

I love DB, but like the other posters I am planning on getting my alterations elsewhere 🙂

I would just try on some strapless and see how you feel about it.

I had straps on my but still had to have it altered in the bust so I felt more secure… didn’t want any oopsies on the big day! tehe
