As part of our deal, the photographer we’re looking to book has offered to throw in an engagement shoot. This hadn’t been something we were considering earlier since we’re both living far from the state we’ll be getting married (and photographed) in and we wouldn’t be able to take something like that until right around the date of the actual wedding itself, but I was instantly tempted because she does some fantastic engagement shoots. My question is–would it be weird if I asked her to make it a day-after shoot instead? I really want some shots of us in our wedding get-up in the city, but since our wedding will be far from the city in a very leafy setting, I’d given up the idea previously. I just don’t want to commit a faux pas by suggesting it!

Nope not weird at all! Majority of us photographers are customizable in terms of what we offer with our wedding photography deals. So, I think it is fine to ask your photog to do a day after instead of an engagement session.
Just ask. You might be surprised. 🙂

I don’t think that’s weird at all, and I doubt your photographer will either. I’d e-mail her to confirm she doesn’t have anything planned for the day after your wedding! Mrs. Flamingo did something similar to this, not the day after, but some time after her wedding day.

I think that would be wonderful. And a good way to get some great pictures of you in your wedding attire in different locations without seeing eachother before the wedding. I bet you get some fantastic photos out of it!

- Wedding: June 2010 - Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!
I was thinking about switching options as well! We have the rehearsal dinner as part of our package, but part of me really wants to make it into a day-after shoot.
I’m worried that I/we will be too hungover/fried/etc the day after to get all dressed up again, though.

Go for it! I don’t think it’s weird at all. We did our e-session following a court wedding (for practical reasons); hence, we were technically married when we had the e-session. 😉

That makes perfect sense to me. I would make it clear that you mean day after casual style pictures. Since I think usually “day after” means you do your pictures together in your dress the next day…

It’s actually not as uncommon as you may think.
The day after can be really fun, and lead to a lot of great pictures for albums and post wedding announcements!
I’m sure your photographer will work with you on this.

I think a day-after is a good idea!!! If it works for your schedule, and you and your hubby-to-be are for it, why not?!

You can definitely request that! It’s actually easier for the photographer to do shoots back to back like that ! Then we can just download both, edit, and burn to one DVD,

We’re doing a day-after shoot too, and I’m really excited about it because we’ll get lots of focused shots of the two of us without having to see each other before the wedding. Plus, we can mix it up– our wedding is in the church, and reception inside at a hotel, but for the day-after shoot, we’re going to get pics taken on the beach and in the garden. I’m looking forward to having a wide variety.
