I heard great things about Stefanie from Your Wedding/Your Way, but she was a little out of our budget. If you can spend something around the $1000 range, I would check them out!

@misschickpea:  I know! Our venue requires a DOC and the contract specifically states it can’t be a friend or family member. I’m on the search for someone charging closer to the $500 mark, so I’ll let you know if I come across anyone good.

Hey ladies!

I can not believe how much the wedding market has changed in just the past year! Granted, yes I did marry in August of 2010… my DOC charged me a lot less than the prices I also ran into back when I was on the hunt. Yes, you do have your steep wedding coordinators who have the big names and are in popular demand but these are usually the bigger companies that own and rent out space downtown, so remember if you arent working with a smaller business, meaning no overhead or building they are operating out of, chances are their wedding packages will always exceed $900.00 in order to their pay their rent and marketing. (On avergage a full service planner charges 30% of your total budget, as seen on BrideTV) But this doesn’t mean DIY brides of brides on a budget can’t have a professional working hard for them!

– Words of wisdom from my sister, an on the goer, power woman working as a real estate agent in Austin and recently divorced… Ouch! Anyway, so since my wedding day I have seen my day of coordinator continue to pick up in business from other bees on the site. She owns a full service wedding planning and catering business too! So if you need that too I would imagine she might be able to throw you a bone if you ask for a discount package. It never hurts to ask!!!! The worse they can say is No. Move on and shop around, these wedding vendors want your business.

Check out Weddingbee blogger, Miss Cardigan’s January wedding here http://www.polkadotbride.com/2011/09/amanda-and-coreys-whimsical-austin-wedding/

I also hired her same DOC, Christina and paid $650 for their DOC services after also hiring them for catering my wedding, where they also met my budget and excceded my expectations! The food is phenomenonal, but that’s if your adventerous and loved Asian fusion! I for one refused to do BBQ or Mexican like everyone else! We were very happy with our decision to work with Christina.

Check out the rest of their reviews here and reach her if you are looking for a good deal and great service, as she will not disappoint and worked hard in saving us money. She located the best vendors and put me in contact with professionals who made our wedding day the most beauiful day of our lives.

HTH! Best of luck to the two of you and hope you have fun planning! Keep us updated on who you end up with and if you do choose to reach Christina, please let her know her Vanessa Jackson from California referred her to you.

Have fun,

~ V

Vanessa!

Thank you for your message. I tried writing you back but for some reason my computer froze right as I was about to send it off and I lost the whole email. Pretty discouraging to say the least!

Anyway, I can not thank you enough for leading me to Christina AND her awesome catering business- Me So Hungry! (Love the hilarious name!) We had a tasting with her right outside her cute little stand last weekend and she made it heaven on earth for us, with the endless eating of everything on her menu! We were even able to take home left overs too and share them with our friends later that night. The shrimp and chicken avocado rolls were so amazing with the spicy peanut sauce! I just know our menu is going to blow our guests out of the water, come April. Traditionally, this is not the wedding caterer I would have chosen, had I gone with a traditionally already been done a million times wedding theme. But we’re true Austinites and love everything about this city and what it has to offer. Plus, my FH is also a small business owner, so it only makes sense that we would support local and keep it WEIRD.

We were able to share our ideas of our perfect wedding day after hiring them to cater, and yes of course booked Christina as our DOC after all. I never thought I would say that! Monica- the total type-A personality, control freak- OCD, anal with everything and it’s proper place (could almost be called a Bridezilla!??) first time bride to be… I’m a total pre-planner but even I didn’t think to consider half the questions Christina asked me regarding our day. Guess even I need some practice at getting my part perfect… =/ The thing is, it’s OUR day. I have finally came to accept that and realize what’s really important. Why on Earth would I want to worry about everything being so damn perfect, when there will be plenty of things I know I cant control. And why would I want to spend my perfect day of bliss trying to control everyone and everything???

For one, my dad’s girlfriend calling me her “little precious baby girl” on MY wedding day infront of my mother!?? Let’s just hope she controls her liquor that night, for everyone’s sake. I know she is dying to get on the mic and make a toast, regardless if I ask her too or not.

Again, I can’t control every little thing that happens and most of all shouldn’t have to. Christina helped me realize this, but best of all she is so reassuring after getting to know my version of the way both Mark’s and my family can be… The good thing is, is that she will be there to take on our day and make it absolutely perfect.

Chickpea, Amber and any other future bride to be… you will love working with this talented caterer and planner! I’ve already referred my sister in law to her too!

Well worth every fair penny. Best of luck to all of you brides to be. My day is right around the corner and I am soooo happy to have almost everything I need taken care of.

KIT Vanessa!

If anyone needs a coordinator and is looking for something affordable, my girl is AMAZING!!! She does DOC, partial coordinatin (which is what we opted for) and full coordination. I believe day of is 750, partial is 1500 and full is 2500. We were just going to do DOC, but she has so many connections in the wedding business in austin we have saved over 1500 just in her discounts so shes already paid for herself! and the peace of mind of having someone help out and keep us on track (and budget!) has been worth every penny. She also has 2 huge storage sheds full of decorations and does flowers for cost AND has her own catering business!!! she never pressured me to use her other businesses, but the price was right and food was amazing so we went that route. She also has 2 assistants that help a lot and if the prices are too high I bet you could book one of the assistants for a reduced rate. Her name is Christina Alfonso and her website is with her food truck http://mesohungryaustin.com/catering/weddings-parties/ email is [email protected]. If you have any questions about her service send me a message!! Also in may 2014 I will be able to let you know how the day of went!

Hey bees, just wanted to post this as anyone who may look into DOC’s in Austin may come accross this old thread.

I am a wedding cake baker in Austin, and I just met with a groom who got married on Saturday to pick up my wedding cake stand. He and his bride hired Christina from Me So Hungry, and they were devastated with the result. Turns out, she doulble booked weddings that day and never told them. She told her entire staff to lie to the bride and groom and everyone involved, saying that she was at the venue early in the morning (when the wedding party wasn’t there) and that she fell off a ladder and had to leave (being that she was pregnant, she needed medical attention). Turns out, she was at another wedding the entire time and never once set foot at their wedding. She send the food with the waiters, which showed up cold and was not what they asked for. I believe Christina’s best friend and Mother were there for damage control, and eventually as things started to crumble her friend admitted that Christina was not injured, she had been at another wedding and was lying to/stealing from them. She was making money to be a wedding coordinator and never even showed up. Now, she had corresponded with me as the baker in the months leading up to the wedding, saying that she wanted to forward me more of her clients to order cakes.

Now, two days after the wedding, she deleted her business page and her website is gone. She took advantage of this wonderful couple and I highly suggest that anyone looking for a DOC in Austin STEER CLEAR of Me So Hungry.
