Hi Bees. I have been hearing that hiring a day of wedding planner is absolutely necessary in order to have things go smoothly. I am having an outdoor wedding with under 60 guests. Did you have a day of wedding planner or are you going to have one?

my venue provides a day of coordinator, so i’m having one. with an outdoor wedding, i’m guessing you’ll have a few vendors and set up to coordinate, so a DOC could come in VERY handy! i’ve found them for around $500, so if you can swing that, i would definitely go for it.

I’m trying to decide. Part of me just doesn’t want to add SOMETHING else to the budget, but the other part realizes how handy it would be, especially because our reception venue only allows people in to set up/decorate 30 MINUTES prior to the reception start time, which means someone is going to have to coordinate that really well to get it all done.

well our wedding was 70 guests and we didn’t have a DOC, but a venue coordinator. I just had people overseeing more specific things. like his aunt/mom/venue coordinator looked after the flower/decor set up during the morning as i got my hair/make up done. and the venue coordinator and my sister (who’s also my MOH) were my time keepers in terms of making sure we were on-time with the schedule we had created.
i think it sort of depends on if you have a venue coordinator and how much they are willing to do for you. ours was great and was in contact with our officiant and the various vendors we hired.

We’re sort of having 2. I’m actually taking advantage of a free offer that I found on WB for a DOC and our venue provides one. I checked with our venue coordinator to see what things they handle based on the list of things the DOC handles to see if we would really need the second person and my venue coordinator seems to think it would be a good idea to have her. While they do take care of alot of the traditional DOC duties, there are some things that they don’t. I’m meeting with the free DOC this Saturday to hash out the details.

Thanks, Bees! I am also trying to avoid adding another thing to my budget but it seems like it would be great to have.

Our venue provides a coordinator, but I am still toying with the idea of hiring a DOC to deal with everything else that the venue coordinator wouldn’t.
