We hired a DOC but we don’t have ANYONE as part of the venue (we are getting married in a public park) so it was an easy decision for us.

I would suggest sitting down with the on-site wedding coordinator and hash out what she’s going to help with and what she won’t. Then figure out what else you need and hire a DOC if need be.

lpnelson504:   We have a similar situation, the venue has a coordinator who is wonderful and has been working well with us.  We decided to hire a DOC in addition.  The venue coordinator is in charge of making sure all goes well as far as the venue is concerned.  The DOC is in charge of making sure MY day goes well – from the timeline and all the details of the ceremony as we have planned them.

My DOC was the best money we spent on our wedding. But we did a backyard wedding, so we really needed her. Does the venue place coordinator simply make sure you’re following the rules or do they do your set up and keep your timeline and stuff like that as well? Is the whole thing at the one site? Or is there another coordinator at the ceremony site? I would think throgh things that will need to be done that day and make  sure you are in charge of nothing and if you can do that with the venue coordinator, then go for it. But if you find yourself thinking about a lot of things that you’d have to do or think of or keep track of, hire the DOC!
