I am a Nanny (different from a daycare provider obviously) and have always driven around the children I have cared for. I’ve Nannied for a family with a 2 year old boy and three month old twin girls, a family with a 5 month old girl who I ended up going into a nanny-share with a boy of about the same age when the girl was 10 months old and now for a family with three boys who are all less the 18 months apart.
My situation is different in that most of the time I only had the families children, though sometimes I had friends babies/children. I would often run  errands for the parents, take the children to swimming lessons, to the park, the museum, the mall, friends places etc. I was always out and about and none of the parents had an issue with this as I have a perfect driving record (not even a parking ticket) and they trust me.
I think if the provider has excellent references AND has a clean driving record, then you just have to decide if you are comfortable with it. I would be okay with the situation you are in, (though I will be a Stay-At-Home Mom when I have kids, so I cannot really put myself in your situation) but I also second the idea of talking to the the provider to see if walking the kids to school is an option.
The most important thing is that you ARE comfortable and 100% happy with everything. You may love the daycare, the provider, the location etc. but if you won’t be completely comfortable all you’ll do is spend your day worrying.

I don’t understand the fuss. Ive been a nanny for 3 1/2 years and if something is going to happen then it’s going to happen regardless of if it’s you driving or someone else. And the whole being worried about their schedule or them being in the car too much? 45 minutes to an hour of being in the car a day for a kid will hVe absolutely no effect on them.

I honestly would not worry. I think you might have being-a-first-mommy-worry-wart-syndrome. Don’t worry! Your baby will be fine.

@mrshunnybunches:  exactly what I was thinking, I’m on the other end of it (nanny) and I find it hard to imagine a daycare provider who just sits home with the kids at all times
