Maybe someone can put my mind at ease…or confirm my fears!!
My dress came in to David’s within an UNHEARD OF 5 DAYS. When I ordered the dress, they told me August, July AT THE EARLIEST. Also, NO ONE mentioned that there’s remotely a chance of it coming in early.
As I’m telling this story to someone, it occurred to me that I DID order the size I tried on…
Is it even a remote possibility they’re selling me the one off the rack that I tried, and passing it off as new??? Would there be any way for me to tell??? Am I digging? I’m a HUGE skeptic. I watch way too much Investigation Discovery to trust ANYONE.
What can I do to ensure that my dress is, in fact, brand new and never been worn??

@BurlapnLace: can you go back to the store and see if it’s still on the rack?

If it’s been worn there would probably be stains on it from other people (make-up, dirt,etc.). Also, the bottom of the dress would be dirty from it dragging on the floor. It is possible that someone else ordered the dress and then cancelled so they had it in stock.

When I was looking at dresses there, the sales person told me that they say it could take 6-8 weeks, but to really expect it within two or less.
I also remember my bridesmaid dresses I ordered from there came in super early as well. But those I know for a fact they did not have in my size and color….

@mypinkshoes: Well when I go to pick it up on Thursday, I’m going to look for it on the rack. I also sent an email to a friend of mine who works there and asked if that’s even a possibility, or am I overthinking it. All I know is that I’ll be thoroughly inspecting that gown when I pick it up.
@Lbward6: It’s a possibility, I suppose. I mean the whole incident could be a fluke thing. I just find it a little suspect that it came in SO fast, and it just happens to be the same size I tried in store.
If there is no 8 hanging on the rack, that’s how I’ll know (if I can’t tell by looking at it)

I took my DB dress home with me that day! It was definitely right off the rack. What does it matter as long as it looks perfect?

@BurlapnLace: The DB consultant told me that they sell dresses off the rack. If it’s not available at their store, they’ll then look to other stores and their warehouse.

@BurlapnLace: mine arrived 10 days after I ordered it. I was shocked. They told me that the time they quote is the time IF one needs to be made/there isn’t one in the warehouse. With the popular designs (White by Vera for example which is my dress) they often have common sizes in the warehouse.
There was no indication that mine wasn’t brand new, it didn’t look like it had been tried on, and definitely looked like it had never been steamed.

If you can’t tell that is has been worn by others and it’s in perfect condition then that great, you get your dress super early.
If it’s just arrived super quickly and is brand new then fab,
If you check it out and it’s dirty, you complain and get them to order you a new one.

Technically there is NO way to actually assure that you are getting a brand-new-never-worn-dress, even if it was ordered from the warehouse. The reason for this is that stores will send back dresses if they aren’t selling, were cancelled orders, or got by accident, and the product gets redistributed.
If you go to the store and the dress is no longer on the rack, that seriously means nothing. Someone else could have bought that dress off the rack.
Also if they did special order it for you, the order goes through the moment that the total is paid in full, so that means that the dress would be on it’s way already, and trying to cancel a special oder is a huge pain in the ass, so I doubt that anyone would bother taking the time to do that.
What most likely happened is that you ordered a popular dress is a popular size a colour. If that is the case then there were lots of them hanging out in the warehouse and it got shipped out with everything else. You probably also got in on that week’s stock shipment.
The time that they quote is a worst-case-senario timeline, it’s generated by the computer and it is what they have to go by.
The whole thing is normal. Personally I wouldn’t worry about it.

I know they do sell dresses off the rack, but so many of the dresses were dirty and dingy when I went to look. I’d defintiely look it over and make sure there aren’t any issues with it

Yes, they sell their instore stock. If you recall when you tried your dress on they picked out one that was your size or closest to it.
This is the same *cruddy* feeling I have about buying rings from the case. Other fingers have already tried it on.

Both of the dresses I ordered from DB came in super fast. Within a week. And I ordered a different size & color than I tried on in store.
