Does anyone have any recommendations about hair and makeup in DC? I am getting married in the District, in Penn Quarter, on a holiday Monday. It all seemed great until I realized I couldn’t do like Mrs. Tulip and go to the Aveda Institute since they are closed on Mondays.
So I’m now looking for other possibilities. I’ll check out AVA Salon, as she recommended, as well as the Aveda Salon up on U St. I’d like to get my hair (worn down and curly) and makeup done, including trials, for under $200. I’m willing to travel, but a stylist who is willing to come to the hotel or church would be fantastic.

Have you posted this on the DC board on The Knot? I know there’s a hair and makeup vendor spreadsheet floating around there that is super useful.
Also, I know Mrs. Tulip liked the Aveda Insitute route, so I did a trial there, and while the makeup looked great, it was almost gone within an hour because it’s all-natural. The makeup artist even told me that she wouldn’t recommend it for wedding makeup because it doesn’t have much staying power. So don’t lament it being closed on Mondays too much…

I am personally a fan of the pr @ partners chain of salons- and most of them have make up artists as well.
my co-worker hit up the macy’s at gallery place and scoured the make up counters until she met a woman (Naiema I think) at the Benefit counter, who came to her hotel and did the entire wedding party. I think department store make up ladies may be the way to go…

I like PR @ partners too they have a lot of taleneted stylists and are pretty reasonable.
