Anyone have ideas for a fun, relatively cheap DC themed favor as part of an Out of Town bag? Something under $5, hopefully?I was thinking a pen, keychain, mug, etc., but if anyone can think of anything more creative that would be cool! Maybe even a pass to a museum / site in the Chinatown area?
Also, anyone know a good spot for really cheap souvenirs? I’m finding surprisingly little online.

I would definitely put a postcard of DC in your Out of Town bags! Another idea is that you could put $5 metro cards in their Out of Town bags with a map of the metro, so your guests can explore the city if they have time. Another thing I found is that there is a guidebook to all the Smithonian museums called “The Offical Guide to the Smithsonian.” I found it online for $3.78, so i’m sure you could search around and find lots of cheap books like that… or just make a little booklet all of your favorite DC places and but that in the bags!

Thank you, I love the metro card and Smithsonian book idea! I will look for the book for sure! A metro card is also a really cute idea, especially since we will be right off several major stops!

Also check out the little white chocolate figures of the different monuments – there’s a chocolatier in the Shops at Georgetown who sells them, and you may be able to find them online too.

I would say put the good ole’ DC halfsmoke in there but that would be messy in a Out of Town bag. 🙂
If you are going for stuff in the Gallery place/Chinatown area, you could for for passes to the Spy Museum. You can also get Go Smithsonian’s for free at any of the Smithsonian museums. It will have all the maps and descriptions of current exhibits. You could also include a list/map of all the great resturants in that area-maybe even branch out down H street towards Penn Quarter or down 7th towards Archives?
As for souvenirs, there’s that DC tourist council shop that’s right by Ford’s theater. Or you can find t-shirts and pins for pretty cheap at the street vendors if you had time to do that ahead of time.
I don’t when your ceremony is, but there are tons of festivals pretty much year round throughout the city. You could include information on one of those that is close to your date.
Are you going to try and include some VA/MD things as well? Then you could add some VA peanuts or Maryland Crab Chips.
Hope that helps!

BW4606 – Thanks for the lead on the chocolate monuments, that could be a perfect addition! I am trying to figure out how big they are – they are about $5 each so I’m hoping they’re a bit larger than they look on the website. They’re not next to anything so it’s hard to tell.
Lolo – Unfortunately the Spy Museum tix are a bit pricey (about $15, I think.) I like the idea of maybe doing something from DC, VA, and MD, maybe as a little sampling of the entire ‘DC area!’ I wanted to put a bunch of food in each bag as well (I figure that’s what people will go for when they return to the hotel hungry!) so I could easily just extend the theme to all of that!

You could always check out Eastern Market and see if there are any sellers who have anything that you could use. I used to live around there and they have some really good deals sometimes!

A friend of mine recently included things related to the metro in her Out of Town bags. She contacted WMATA directly and they sent her maps and metro postcards for FREE!

Old Bay seasoning to represent MD! Or basically anything with a crab on it.
I unfortunately do not have any original ideas for DC stuff 🙁

I love the metro card idea. Very different and I think your guests will be grateful for that. I also agree with @lol7835 with the DC Souvenir shop across the street and on the corner from Ford’s Theatre. They have A TON of stuff.

You could get mugs with a cherry blossom/monument scene and use that as your “bag.” You could put the metro cards, maps, and candy in the mug.

cherry blossom hand sanitizer from bath and body works!

I was thinking about this too. Fiance and I live (and met) in DC, but are getting married in NJ. I wanted to include a little DMV representation in our Out of Town bags, but all I could think of was VA wine, which would get pricey.
