Lately I’ve really been second guessing my dress pick. It’s not that I don’t like the dress – I think it’s lovely it’s just very different than I always imagined. It’s also a lot more bridal than I expected I would pick, and I have to admit that my mom’s reaction and how much she loved it really influenced my decision. The whole thing happened really suddenly and I felt kind of pressured by my consultant (one of my many complaints about davids bridal – nothing tops that stupid bell though). The whole trip to look at dresses wasa spur of the moment idea and ended with an unexpected purchase.
I’m also a little concerned that it doesn’t look flattering on me from a front on view but that might be due to the picture quality I have (crappy cell phone) and I hope can be fixed by alterations in the shoulder and a good bra. I could probably stand to lose a little weight too.
All the negatives aside, it has some features I really love. It’s more elegant than I was originally wanting but it has a dash of whimsy with the hemline and IT HAS POCKETS!
I really do like the dress I just need some objective feedback about it. It would do me a world of good to hear from the bees on this. (pictures and poll to follow)

Aww, I think you look really pretty in your dress! And you definitely do not need to lose any weight. I think the dress needs to be taken in at the waist, it looks like you have a teeny waist and it’s currently being obscured a bit. The style is really whimsical and lovely, you look like a princess but in a totally non-OTT kind of way, almost nonchalant. I love that it has pockets and isn’t a full length gown. You could really do some beautiful shoes and show them off.
What would be your dream dress, is there any way to add these elements to this dress to make it more you?

Do you have pictures of you in another dress? I’m not sure if I dont really like it OR if it’s what another PP suggested…it needs to be altered.

Honestly I’m not sure if I’m feeling it. I love the bottom, it is really whimsical and fun but there’s just something off about the top half that I just can’t quite put my finger on. It doesn’t seem especially flattering and there’s something about that plain space between your boobs and the skirt that just doesn’t feel right. It is entirely possible that alterations plus a good bra would make the difference. I agree with gelaine22 that it would be nice to see you in another dress for comparison purposes.

Thank you, whimsical is exactly what I was going for and I was worried that this dress wasn’t. As far as dresses I was looking at before it was either tea length with 3/4 sleeves and a deep v back and boat neck (ruche’s Audrey that they stopped carrying like a month before I got engaged!) or something really boho and simple like this http://www.etsy.com/listing/83005236/infinity-dress-octopus-convertible-wrap? So it can’t really be altered to looking like either of those.
As far as alterations I really hope that they make me look less wide from the front. As it is right now the shoulder straps are falling off -they’re supposed to be off the shoulder but not quite that much – so I think (hope) that’s effecting things. Also I don’t really…fill out the front so I think that without alterations it looks kind of weird and lumpy up there but that’s nothing a good pushup can’t fix. The werid long line bra corset thing they had me wear wasn’t exactly helping my bust at all either. It had more of a smooshing effect than a boosting.
Unfortunatly this is the only dress I have pictures of. Which is kind of part of my problem – it was the first dress even worth taking pictures of and everybody reacted well to it so I went with it. Everything else didn’t even really fit because the consultant pulled dresses a size to small in a trumpet style (which I specifically asked to avoid) and I felt super fat in all of them so this one was a HUGE relief if only for the fact that it didn’t make me feel like a saugage.

GAH. That is exactly what I’m worried about that weird white wide space from my boobs down to the waist. Do you think a belt might break it up or would just add more bulk?

I think it looks amazing from the back and side! The front looks great, except for the sides of the torso – as another poster said, it’s not you needing to lose weight, it just looks like it needs altering (taking in at the waist, perhaps?), because the lines there don’t flow too well.
If you don’t have any photos of you in other dresses, maybe a photo of you in clothes that show your figure might help? Because I think that’s a fantastic dress, it just looks as if it needs altering!

@gatorlovesturtle: I think you could get a belt to work there without being bulky. My first instinct would be a simple sash/ribbon with some sort of embellishment on the side, middle will probably make it look bulkier and compete too much with the embellishment around the neckline. I do think you need something in that space even if it’s just a ribbon, it just looks kind of empty/unfinished to me.
If you want a little sparkle I would do a plain ribbon and buy a larger brooch. Wedding Factory Direct (http://weddingfactorydirect.com/broochs.html) has a big section of brooches if you want to get some ideas and of course there’s always etsy and ebay. Sashes with the embellishment already sewn onto the middle an always be tied to it’s on the side.
If you want something more whimsical, there are a lot of options for flower sashes. Maybe one larger flower or a couple small flowers would look cute. Some examples would be: http://www.etsy.com/listing/123228936/bridal-sash-in-blush-ivory-cream-flower or http://www.etsy.com/listing/109777722/romantic-ivory-flower-sash

@gatorlovesturtle: Oh I think you look adorable! With some alterations, it’ll be great.
Maybe add a blingy sash right over that seam at the waistline? I think that would look really really good because yeah, the waist part look a little weird if I try to be critical… I don’t think it would add bulk but it’s hard to say. Give it a try!
