Fiance is finally understanding why I was getting frustrated dealing with vendors. It seems he’s had a very different experience than me dealing with them. He calls or emails them and says we need XYZ and they say ok it’s $X. Yes or no, sign the contract, make the payment, or whatever, done. I on the other hand seem to get the run around. I talk to vendors and no one will give me a quote, they want to know all the details about the event, the EXACT menu I want, my total budget for the entire wedding. They want to set up meetings, and talk for hours on the phone. They insist that the only type of fish I can serve is salmon even if we don’t want salmon. I tell them our budget and ask what can you do for us, they come back at 20% or even 50% over and tell me I have to make a decision fast. They’re wasting my time! Why set up a meeting with me if I say my budget is $100 to tell me my minimum budget should be $200. Why not just politely tell me up front that they can’t do it in my budget but could work out something if I could go X amount higher? I contacted a DOC (whose website has hourly rates for extra services, not just packages) and told her exactly what I was looking for, day of 9 hours and two one hour meetings beforehand to get her the info. It’s a small 30 person wedding. She’s been doing this for a year, I have over a decade of event coordination experience (everything from small not for profit to large multi million international corporate events) I just want someone there the day of to make sure the musician is there on time and the venue coordinator has set up the right number of chairs. She tells me after that her MINIMUM is month of coordination (despite having an hourly rate posted on her website) and that I should just get someone off Craigslist! Why make me waste my lunch hour talking to you if I told you beforehand that I only wanted a DOC? Why not tell me beforehand that I’m not worth your time? I’m having Fiance call another DOC that our officiant recommended and gave him a list of exactly what we need her to do because I’m so over getting the run around!
Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me?!
