Duncan:  American Express has a great deal right now- 30,000 free Aeroplan miles when you sign up for an American Express Aeroplan Plus Gold card AND they waive the fee for the first year! You need post a reminder in your phone if you don’t want to renew to avoid getting charged the annual fee for the second year.

What’s more is that you can get 10,000 more miles for each person you refer who signs up after you get a referral link from AE. 25,000 miles will get you a flight to MIami, then you could book a local flight from there. You might be able to book the next leg on an Aeroplan partner airline.

There are usually fees associated with redeeming Aeroplan miles (not on all airlines) but it’s still a pretty cheap flight from Vancouver to Miami return.
