@serabell:, @omgsprinkles: I think you are right, I am going to look into rescues! I love that idea and I think that is they way to go.
I almost think my dog is “spoiled” (not that I love her any less). I just love her so much and want to snuggle her and she’s all like “whatev’s, I can get this anytime.”
I love her though and she is a great dog for camping and hiking (how she was raised). Her breed is also known for being independent.
I have 2 Italian Greyhounds and I have had 2 others IG’s as well. 3 of the 4 were complete snuggle bunnies. One of mine will come on day trips with me and be perfectly happy just being carried, snuggled all day long. The 4th loves attention and will snuggle up against me, but does not like to be carried or held (it seems to worry him, I don’t know his history as he was dumped in our local shelter.)
Italian Greyhounds are wonderful and have a very active rescue group if you are interested in in one. The rescue dogs are in foster homes, so they should be able to tell you who is a snuggler.
The downside of IGs is that they HATE weather and tend to be rather hard to potty train compared to other dogs. They also need to have their teeth brushed regularly or they will end up needing dental work.
I had an 85lb greyhound that loved to cuddle. Unfortunately he also had major “sleep startle” so you had to make sure he was fully awake before you tried to move him.
