Can you call the school and explain? If you are still enrolled the loans should remain in grace, at least they do in the U.S. Or at least my school and my loans 😛 I would definitely check with the school on that though.

Oh I hear you on this one. My student loan which was supposed to come to me May 1 got cancelled because my university told the government I wasn’t a student. Then after many many phone calls I finally got the straightened out that I am in fact a student. So now I am waiting for them to fix their mistake and a month later I sitll haven’t received my loans! So frustrating.

Yeah, even if you skipped a semester and then went back, you will then fall into the grace period and not have to pay. I would call them and get it fixed stat.

ugh, I’m so there. The whole “well, you got out in mid-may, so you still have to pay for the month of may” um, wait, what? I’m enrolled for the summer though…

damn that mid/between semester loop. Every december/may we go through this…

I wrote a 3 page letter to Sallie Mae explaining how ridiculous their policies are. When I was teaching and off for the summer, they said they needed a copy of my paycheck. Um, I don’t get a paycheck in the summer – how am I supposed to send you NOTHING?! They called me 2x a day over that shit, and each time, the representative said the same thing: I need a copy of your paycheck. WTF?!?!!?!? I DON’T GET ONE IN THE SUMMER!! *head explodes*

I’ve been out of a school for a year now and Darling Husband and I are being hit with almost $600 a month in student loans.  It’s the same as our rent and they keep switching the loan companies on us so we keep getting notices and late fees that we have to correct.

If your loans are through ACS you should be able to defer and/or lower your payments.

And did you take a full year off?  With all my student loans I had at least a 6 month grace period, a couple had a full year before they came into repayment…did you not get any of that?

Okay then you have all rights to defer….I would call the student loan office and if they don’t take your deferrment, which your school should be able to fax them your records, ask to talk to a manager and take it as far to the top as you can until you get it fixed.  There’s a reason that you don’t pay student loans back right away….it’s because we’re barely making enough to feed ourselves when we’re in school
