I totally agree. Even THIS blog has given me a complex that my wedding is going to suck because all these cute things EVERYONE else seems to be doing but when you really look at the weddings the normal people post, there is a much greater variety. I’m rocking my church fellowship hall and there will not be a mason jar or piece of burlap in sight. Not that those are bad, but it seems that all the “vintage, rustic” things are what everyone exspects weddings to be and that just isn’t me. And I am getting much better at being proud of that. Though I am going to have a variation on bunting that is cute little Christmas light shapes for my cocoa bar…

I loved that article. It really puts things into perspective. And its soooo true. You can’t help but look at blogs like SMP and feel completely inadequate but at the same time every single one of those looks identical.

That was great! I’m going to have a lot of detail but not detail I see everywhere else so this was comforting to me as well… I also am on the hunt for a photographer right now too so that helps me know I should go with the photographer I like instead of the ones that are popular in my area. The photos all tend to look similar and those yellow ones are not my favorites.

@jacinda10: photoshopped to look older… a lot of times they look very yellow.

This ones not too yellow but this is close to what I mentioned.

Yeah sometimes I like them but not for me in a white dress. Our wedding theme is very antique style but I want bright vibrant images that are crisp and clear =)

Another reason to hate the looking at bloggers.

SOme of them shows pictures of weddings that cost at least thousands upon thousands of dollars. Sucks to compare it to mine. Dont get me wrong, I do love my plans for my own wedding, but if I know I cant afford what they show on blogs, then I dont bother even looking!!! Y torture yourself.

I agree with this, and all the new wedding websites and blogs are looking the same because they are all using the same hosts, software and templates.  +1 for the guys who been around the block for a while and are all custom.

is this like rocket science about why only particularly beautiful/vintage/expensive weddings are showcased?

Who wants to read a blog article about someone’s wedding that is obviously cheap/minimal DIY/in a not-gorgeous location…in a word… average?

I know I’m totally out of it, but what’s a VFW wedding?

That was a really cool post :). I loved that my photographer would do some of the trends, like tilting the camera, but she uses vibrant normal colors. I love that we have a bit of both. I wanted something a little artsy, but still classic.

@red_rose:  I think it’s pretty crappy, I showcase all my clients on my blog.  It’s a photographers job to make ordinary environments come alive and create beautiful art.  You don’t have to go crazy with details for a plain wedding, but if they hire you and it is work that you did, why not show it.

I think it’s such crap that some photographers now in their price sheets include blogging.  Like it’s some kind of honor to be on their blog….PLEASE.

@jo.lee:  That trend (tilt) has been around since before the 80’s 🙂
