I’m due 12/13 and find myself spending a lot of time this year preparing ahead for Christmas. I feel like there’s always so much to do at that time of year and know I won’t have time once bebe arrives!
So far all of my Christmas and gift thank-you cards are done (including envelopes addressed) and I’m about halfway there on purchasing presents for everyone. I have gifts picked out for everyone, now I’m just working on buying or making everything. I also want to have everything wrapped and ready to ship to relatives by Thanksgiving (except for the baked goods, those will have to be last minute wrap ups, but I’m getting boxes ready so I can just layer the stuff in there with waxed paper and stick a bow on it!).
My latest project is to make ahead things like scones, muffins, breads, and cookies so I can pull them out of the freezer when company comes. I’m treating myself to a cleaning service to come on 12/20 since we’re hosting Christmas dinner this year, and I’m asking my local relatives for IOUs of laundy and dishes as Christmas gifts instead of asking them to buy things.
Are there any other bees due near Christmas, and what are your ideas to try and get things ready so the holidays are still fun and not super stressful?

I am due 12/22 and sadly, we are not participating in Christmas this year. WHo knows if I will have the baby before, on or after Christmas, so we are playing it safe. My family is bringing us food (YAY) and we will eat at home while our families have their normal celebrations. We are skipping gift exchanges too. Our gift to everyone is our little girl! Merry Christmas 🙂 lol!

Wow you are so far ahead of the game! I am due 12-12-12 and this will be a unique Christmas in the fact that my mom and my dad will both be here!
We really need to get on buying gifts and getting our cards done. We havent started 🙁
We mostly buy everything online so it wont be too bad but we need to get started.

@Nickles9911: I’m due 12/5 and have been thinking about this a lot lately. I’ve been doing my gift shopping a little bit earlier than usual, but I still have more to do. Luckily I bought all the wrapping and everything we’ll need during after-Christmas sales last year, so we’re good to go there. I’m impressed with all you’ve accomplished!!!
We are hosting Thanksgiving at our house this year and I am thinking of putting up the Christmas tree (artificial) that weekend, or maybe even earlier, in case baby comes early.
I was also just thinking this morning that I should do my baking early and freeze stuff, but we just moved, and I need to finish unpacking first…
I picked out a Christmas Card/Birth Announcement from Tinyprints… I will wait until baby is born to order those cards, but I do have address labels already prepared.
I’m so excited about this holiday season, even though I know it will be a little crazy!!!

I’m due 12/8 and have been researching presents online. I’d like to get them bought and wrapped by Thanksgiving or just after. As for Christmas Day, we’re inviting our family to come over – and bring the food! I’d like to participate in getting our tree, but my husband may have to do that alone, as long as I can help decorate. 🙂

Am I being a grinch? LOL! Both Darling Husband & I think we should just not participate. I guess it’s because my EDD is so close to Christmas. I commend all of you girls for still doing your normal routines, especially you OP. You are really making things happen!

@Nickles9911: You are so ahead of the game! We are only buying for seven people and two are done, but I know what we are going to buy everyone. My due date is 12-11 and really hoping to pop early ! I have thought about cards but I wanna get the babies pictures taken and have that be our card. We will take the baby to my parents and his parents houses which are both local.

@MARIE901: you aren’t being a grinch. i’m due 12/27, and like you, who knows if we will have a newborn or be in labor on christmas. as of now our plan is to not participate either and encourage our families to continue with their plans as normal. BUT…who knows how that will unfold, i’m sure they will be just as anxious as us excepting the new little one.
i am really wanting to host thanksgiving as a trade off to christmas, so we can have one last gathering, but my husband is really trying to talk me out of it. we live at least 3 hours from any of our family so they will be staying with us if we host. he is afraid i will have already “nested” and have the house spotless, so hosting a whole house full would mess all that up. we will just have to wait and see how it plays out. my doctor is pretty conservative and advises against traveling more than 1.5 hours after 34 weeks…which will put us out of thanksgiving and christmas if we don’t host at thanksgiving.
i haven’t even THOUGHT about cards, gifts, food, etc yet…i probably should

@MARIE901: You are not being a grinch! We have pulled out of most Christmas plans this year as well. We know we will have our little lady by then but we’re not really into taking our 1-2 week old out and about for a Christmas gathering of 50+ people (who will all want to get their grubby little mitts on her! Who’s the grinch now?). My family will plan on stopping by for a little bit on Christmas Eve to bring us dinner and open some gifts and have Christmas together for the newest additions to the fam-our little one and my now 5 month old nephew. No clue what my in-laws are planning on doing or when they are coming by. I’m actually really excited this year that it will just be our little family for the most part hanging out and enjoying Christmas together-not the running from house to house we’re used to!
As far as being prepared we have some gifts already bought but not all of them. We usually get those on Black Friday. Since we know our little one is coming before Christmas I was planning on doing newborn photos and sending out late holiday cards-I think people will understand why they are late! I should get on the address labels though-you ladies are organized and smart!

@Milwaukeebride: WOW, 50+ is a lot! I think I’m less worried because we’ll only have 6-8 guests (including Darling Husband and I) since my brother and his wife are going to her family this year. And I know everyone has had a TDAP shot as whooping cough is really bad in my area of the country…it might have even been declared epidemic in surrounding counties. I basically held baby time hostage and said we just couldn’t invite people over who hadn’t been vaccinated, lol.
I don’t think anyone who’s bowing out and having a private Christams is being a grinch, I just happen to be totally wild about Christmas and want to host…we’re thinking we’ll also host our traditional small gathering of friends the 23rd, I know I’m a little (ok, a lot) crazy, lol.
@78h2o: Shoot, I hadn’t thought of birth announcements…that’ll be a bigger project since there are people who probably would like one that I don’t normally send Christmas cards to. Tinyprints is a great idea, I should get on that…I think that’ll be a printed labels rather than hand-addressed project!

kris1423 I am due the same day For some reasoN I really think this little one is going to come early, though!
I have not even started thinking about Christmas! The most we’ve done is tell everyone that we will not be travelling. If the baby hasn’t come, we’ll probably have a small group of family for dinner on Christmas eve and call it good.
Yikes, I guess I’d better get a gift shopping plan together!
