Hello Bees – It’s been decided (of sorts) that Fiance & I will be having a Destination Wedding in the Florida Keys in 2.5 years History: we have been married before and I got married on the beach so to me (& FI) we would rather not REPEAT that history. He wants the keys and I’m wonderfully ok with him wanting the keys..I just need to find a venue that gives me all of the beachy perks (laid back style, easy going, maybe even steel drums, etc)…just no ceremony on the beach. I would like a hotel actually…and with pics during sunset on the beach.
Any ideas? I know he doesn’t want Hemingway House or the Truman House…he is fine with me wanting a hotel or even a garden wedding..but we REALLY don’t want to spend a ton of $$ as we will start to begin our life and would prefer to start it with a positive cash flow LOL.
So bees, I’ve seen you in action – I know you can do it & that you will accept this task and this message will NOT self destruct 🙂 I’m open to anything…

This site lists a bunch of Key West venues. I like your choice of location. When Darling Husband and I finally get around to having a honeymoon, that’s where we’re going.

I just have to say that Key West is my favorite place in all of Florida (I live in Ft. Lauderdale) and my 21st birthday and the best 4th of July of my life were spent there. It is an amazing place and just to tell you, of all the times I’ve been there, I went to the beach there ONCE. It is definitely doable – I can do a little research too.

I just had a thought. The Hard Rock on Duvall St. is amazing. I know you mentioned a garden wedding or a beachy vibe but would that be an option?
Or a waterfront restaurant? Then you would have the docks and the water but it wouldn’t on the beach at all.

Ok I found the place. The Key West Garden Club. http://www.keywestgardenclub.com/Weddings.html
Their website isn’t as detailed and well organized as it could be but I’m sure there are some other Key West wedding websites where you could find details and you could call.

Damn…my bees are already on it 🙂
@strawbabies Thank you. I will be checking that site out in about 30 seconds!
@ star_dust We also live in Ft Lauderdale – so hello neighbor 🙂 We have only been there a handful of times (so sad) I haven’t even checked out the Hard Rock. Yes, beachy vibe would be great…Fiance & I love the water – but because of the previous wedding just choose not to have a ceremony on the actual sand…damn that 1st marriage 🙂

We got married in Key West in April. We had a beach wedding, but I checked out a lot of options before deciding. My suggestions would be a wedding on a sailboat. We went to one in May and it was spectacular at sunset. A hotel would also be gorgeous. The Reach and Southernmost on the Beach or the Southernmost House have really nice facilities. I’ve also seen a lot of beautiful wedding photos from ceremonies at Casa Marina which is a Wldorf Astoria property.
Good luck finding the perfect spot. You have so many fabulous options in Key West.

Friends just got married at the Ocean Key Resort on their pier. So, right on the water, but no beach – it was on the dock/pier itself (wood like a wood deck). It was an amazing wedding and Key West was crazy fun. I never saw a fabulous sunset, but it didn’t detract from an incredible wedding weekend!

Thank you ladies. I hit the ground running with these ideas and failed to say Thank you. I really did like Ocean Key Resort’s pier & also Southernmost so that was a welcome change. I just spoke to Fiance and told him because of my insane nature to cross SOMETHING off my list…we need to take a weekend trip this summer. He is all game for that, but did remind me that I already have one item crossed off the list…GROOM…MEN! LOL
But again….thank you….still open to all ideas

I looked into this one:
They have various very pretty ceremony/reception locations.
And this one is AMAZING, although not quite Key West & alittle pricey:

hii.. i just got back from key west actually scouting out some wedding venues.
i knew that key west beaches were nothing to brag about, it’s all about the water there. i just didn’t realize how much i would really miss the beach for wedding.
idea was to get married on the beach at ft. zachory taylor and then reception at ocean key’s sunset pier. the sunset peir is truly beautiful and they do a great job…i’m just not sold on the ft. zachory taylor part.
soooo now i’m on here looking for ideas for a new destination (i think?)

I just got back from Key West and stayed at Casa Marina. I think their only other ceremony option would be a ballroom–maybe the pier? I would definitely find out about the food. If it is the same thing they are serving at the restaurants, that’s a problem. It is a beautful location and i liked how they completely cleared half the beach for wedding ceremonies so no half-nekkid people are in the pictures. Latitudes at Sunset Key was beautiful and the food was good. I would also check out the sail boat option. I think the Hemingway House would be beautiful, but I’m not the groom:)
