@prefectpearbee:  You won’t see much (if any) of a visual different between 2.8 and 3ct. I think it sounds beautiful and I can’t wait to see pics! I’m really starting to love oval stones…you don’t see as many of them and they are SO pretty.

I think it would help to know the dimensions of the stone.  But it’ll probably look awesome, and I like that you’re going with a simple setting for a stone that large.

@prefectpearbee:  You definitely have small fingers so be prepared to get some stares/comments. Three carats is pretty huge, but I am aiming for 2 so that’s pretty big as well lol. I do love the big stones. I say go with what makes you happy. You’ll hopefully only have one engagement ring in your life, so get something you want. My only suggestion would be to have it set in platinum – it’s way more durable.

Whichever one is cleaner and has a better color.

A 3.0 Carat Oval Diamond is pretty HUGE…. aprox 10mm x 8mm, so even on someone with average fingers (a size 7 for example) this stone will have a LOT of coverage.  Someone with 3-1/4 size ring finger, and I think you’ll find it’ll be very BIG and more like a cocktail ring (with spillage) vs a more classic look

http://www.ajediam.com/Oval_diamond_sizes.html

NOTE – Sizes shown in the diagrams above are just representative, and not “to size”… you’ll want to get out a measuring tape to see how big 10mm actually is, it is close to 1/2 inch across.

As the others have said, not a lot of difference in size of the actual diamond between a 2.8 Carat Oval and a 3.0 Carat in the same cut (remember that when it comes to diamonds it isn’t ALL about the size… there is something to be said for Cut Quality – Clarity – and Colour as well).  Personally, for my money I’ll always go for a higher Quality Stone than a Bigger one anyday (afterall that is what is responsible for all that “sparkle”)

Hope this helps,

I agree, go for the one with the best color and clarity since they are so close in size.

I think it’s going to look great on you, can’t wait to see it!

I love big stones. Love them. I would go for the biggers stone. And the same would go for if you were getting a smaller stone than what other people have, you shouldn’t base your choices on what others have and just do what makes you happy.

ETA: I wasn’t reading very clearly. I didn’t realize the difference was between a 2.8 and 3 carat. There’s essentially no difference between a 2.8 to a 3 lol. I would go with the better stone as far as clarity and color, if that’s the case.
