So, tonight my friend randomly decided to take a pregnancy test. She came out after just a minute, a dark second line had appeared. We all celebrated, but I couldn’t help but feel sad about it. I’ve been wanting a baby for such a long time, but my husband had been hesitant. I knew he wanted to have a baby, but he was scared. We talked about it tonight, and he let me know his reasons were that he is scared that I’ll have a miscarriage, or that something will happen to me. After talking about how miscarriage is always a risk, I told him it’s one we have to be willing to take. He had an ex that miscarried years ago, after they broke up. Ever since, its terrified him that it could happen to me. Basically, long story short, he agreed that after talking to my doctor for some words of encouragement and tips on a healthy pregnancy in a few days, we could start TTC. I’m so excited! We plan on trying to have an emergency fund of about $5,000 by the time the baby is born, and keep adding to it. Although we are by no means rich, we have enough for bills and some extra things every month. I have insurance that covers everything as well. I just feel like this is a good year to start. 😊 Is there any advice on TTC that anyone can give me?

First of all, congratulations! Starting to ttc is so exciting! I hope your time here on the ttc board is short!
My advice would be to start taking a prenatal right away. Most doctors will recommend starting on one before ttc in order to build up your body’s supply of all the important nutrients!
I would also advise you to get any medical/dental work that you need done out of the way as soon as possible to avoid having to do that during pregnancy!
Get to know your body and its cycle! I highly highly recommend reading the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Its very imformative!
Im sure theres more advice other bees will cover, those are just the ones that popped into my head first. Try to enjoy the process as much as possible, it’s easier said than done but still try! haha best of luck!!

Congrats!! I guess I never realized how many emotions there are when you start TTC. Part of this is that I was way too overly obssessed about everything our first month trying. Apparently that did work because I ended up pregnant, but sadly I miscarried at 5 1/2 weeks. Miscarriages are scary, but unfortunately it’s part of the TTC process. MANY people have miscarriages (I have 3 personal friends who have but who have then went on to get pregnant shortly after that!). You can’t let fear run your life. I’ve accepted that it was nothing that I did or didn’t do. It was nature’s way of saying that there wasn’t something 100% right (even though it was hard to deal with for a while). However, I have to say that DH and I are much more closer now after we experienced that. I did everything right (ate right, got enough sleep, didn’t stress, etc. and still happened to me). Now this month I’m much more laid back about everything.
I do recommend that you get on a prenatel though. I take the First Response gummies with DHA. I’ve tried 3 different brands (One-A-Day, Rainbow Lit and some prescription one) that made me so sick!! I’m glad that I got that figured out before we actually started trying.
I started to chart and use OPK’s. Not everyone does this when they first start to try, but it was great for me to know about my cycle. Apparently I ovulate much later than the normal 14 days, so the other months when we weren’t really trying I believe that I totally missed that. It’s best to have sex 3-4 days before you ovulate so that the spermies are waiting for the egg!
If you need to lube, I highly suggest Pre-Seed. It’s sperm friendly and helps sperm live longer I believe. Normal lubes kill sperm. I honestly think this helped me get pregnant the first month that we used it. You’re supposed to use it internally, but I just used it externally like a regular lube.
I did the whole put my hips up on 2 pillows for 30 minutes after sex. Maybe that helps and maybe it doesn’t…just makes me feel better lol
Don’t spend tons of money on pregnant tests. The best ones are from Walmart for 88cents or the dollar store! 🙂 You can also buy cheap ones off from Amazon, but I didn’t really like those.
Good luck!! 🙂 🙂

Just wanting to update 😊 we’ve decided that our goal is to be pregnant by June, but I know there is a good chance that wont happen. We’re just hoping. But we have had our baby names picked out for 3 years now and we chose Grayson Christopher for a boy, and Lillian Isabelle (nickname Lily Belle) for a girl. I did have two questions. For that week or so after going off birth control, I was told my husband and I should “do the deed” like crazy, because I’ll be extremely fertile then. Is that true? Also, who all did you tell you were TTC? My close friends and my grandma know, but that’s all.

ahhhh I love the name christopher! That’s my hubbys name but he doesnt want to name our future kid that lol.
I have also heard that people can be most fertile immediately after stopping birth control. Im not sure why. I can’t give any first hand experience, but I’m sure other bees can!
We haven’t told a single person we are ttc! I think the only person I’d want to tell is my sister, but so far we’ve kept quiet. We’re definitely not telling our parents since my mother cant keep a secret to save her life lol

Christopher is the name of his best friend from high school. He passed away at 16, and we wanted to honor him. I think it’s such a strong and classic name 😊 I don’t plan on telling any more of our family, just because I think it would add more pressure on us. I’ve told friends, just because so many of them have children so they can give me advice and support while TTC.
