- Wedding: December 2012
Hi everyone! I’ve been reading lots of posts here but this will be my first post!
so I’ve been engaged since last Christmas (yey!!) to my dearest fiance whom I’ve been dating since 7.5 years ago.
I haven’t done much of REAL planning yet as I’m in medical school and he’s working full time and studying for GMAT. so this is the deal, I really wanted to get married this year — first when I got engaged, I wanted to get married this summer! but…school overload, I realized that wasn’t gonna happen soon enough. so I thought december! I get a good month and a half off for summer so I purposely didn’t plan anything during that time. no research, no nothing. just so that I can devote my time to planning…and if I can sneak in a trip to asia in there (i’m korean, he’s ABC) that’d be awesome too ..i thought.
okay well, mr. sweetietooth (mr.ST from now on) says he wants to be a part of the planning and he won’t be of much help until december — after he finds out which grad school he will be attending from next fall. i was still thinking of pushing it (planning it anyway) for this december and see if he changes his mind sometime down the line….
until…i found (i think!) my dream dress.
I found this dress, dauphine by Ian Stuart, at a local shop. the more i think of it something like it is exactly what i wanted for my wedding — graceful, elegant, classic, but also glamorous. perfect!! …except for the price tag of $5300 before any alterations.
but, before I found this dress I was already contemplating about which of the two awesome dress makers I found in Ktown in LA I wanted to hire. they design their own dresses, and make custom dresses from scratch, to fit your body like a glove. my friend’s getting her custom made wdress from one of them, so that’s how I found out about these vendors. so the vendors I speak of are: ShinBu and Kara. both are amazing and I haven’t 100% decided whom I’m going to hire yet, but they do custom-made rental if you want, or for purchase. So far ShinBu is giving me a better quote (<$2000 for rental, <$3000 for purchase) so I might go with them. (my friend went with Kara because for her, Kara gave better quote).
anyways, both dressmakers are telling me that they need 6-8 months to make the dress. so then I thought, okay fine. maybe in that case, we can decide on a summer date next year, I can plan as much as possible this summer still as long as we have an exact date, get the dress making started, and …once the school starts for me, I can stop last minute planning /detailing and give the boton to mr. ST to deal with. the reason being, I have a very important exam next june and I will NOT be able to plan anything next year.eitherway, I told Mr.ST that he’d have to hire someone to help him if he is not able to handle all the last minute detail that pops up. SO we (just us two talking) settled on next june.
well today we called his mom and my mom to say “HAPPY MOTHERS DAY~” and his mom told us how his grandpa is planning on coming to the states (he’s in asia) for 3 months in december and he was hoping we’d get married while he’s still in the states.
well mr. ST told her we were thinking about june, but since I WAS originally rooting for december also…….. i’m tempted to push through 🙁
but then at the same time….i feel like that won’t be as leisurely
