After a couple weeks on WeddingBee, I’m starting to become a little less nervous about proposing to my gf on Vday. Take a look at my ideas and let me know what you think, is it too much, just right, or too little. She’s been hinting at getting married since a lot of her classmates in her grad program are either engaged (with massive rings) or just married, so after long discussions, I told her that I would propose by March 31st 11:59pm to calm her nerves.
Proposal idea: For our 4th anniversary, we started dating in 2010, we planned on going to San Diego on Valentines Day. She has to go class, and that class ends at 11 or so, I was planning to send flowers to her class with a note like “can’t wait to see you tonight, beautiful” it may disrupt the class, but I don’t really care. She plans on skipping the later class she has that day. When i pick her up from class, we would drive to San Diego (we live about 2.5 hours away) After checking in at the hotel, I wanted to take her to La Jolla Cove to walk on the beach during sunset. (disclaimer: My proposal is going to set around Little Mermaid, She made me buy a 3D copy, so I thought it was important to her). Before we go on a walk, I would act like i forgot something in the room and tell her to just go to the car. During this time, I would use rose petals (fake or real, doesn’t matter) to write out “SHE SAID YES” on the bed (i know she’ll say yes!). Back to the walk: Given the little mermaid theme, I was thinking of recreating Ariel’s human collection and making a memory box and putting random stuff that Ariel thought was cool like a fork and flute and stuff and then I would put the ring in there. So with the water splashing against the rocks, during our walk I would pop the question after giving her the speech that would include things like, “will you be apart of my world” or something that is clearly from the Little mermaid. I plan on buying a shell ring box to put the ring in as well to make it a more beachy proposal. She’s a crying girl, So i’m not gonna have the proposal photographed, I asked if she wanted it to be, and she thought it wasn’t really necessary.
After the proposal, I thought we could do something really low-key, just a dinner or something so she can spend the rest of the night to tell her friends and instagram. .
I know it’s not necessary to get her a gift besides the ring (thanks to the lovely’s who responded to my thread yesterday) but she’s russian so she loves matroshyka dolls, and they have little mermaid nesting dolls that I might get her.
The ring: I was originally going to get her a diamond, but my 1500 dollar budget didn’t get what she wanted, so we started looking at alternatives and she found out about morganite and rose gold. So I’m going with a 2 carat morganite cushion cut halo ring with .75 carat worth of diamonds.
While in SD, We were going to do more like going to the safari park and the rose gardens in balboa park. But i’m not sure what else to do there. Anybody got any ideas?
