So my wedding is awhile away but I’m starting to piece together ideas for decor. I’m having a casual, but fun and cute carnival inspired wedding. The reception is at a fire hall that is providing tables, chairs, and white linens. BUT, I’ve been thinking about the chairs. This is pretty much what they look like:
I think they are on the pretty ugly side. But I’m also thinking that dressing them up with a big old white chair cover would just be TOO fancy for the colourful, casual look we are going for! There will probably be colourful lollipop centrepieces in the middle ontop of silver wrapped boxes.
So, my big question is… what the heck do I do? Leave the chairs open, wrap them in big heavy white paper… or some other awesome and COST effective plan that one of you creative bees might be able to offer??!?

I say leave them. AT the end of the day no one will care what the chairs look like. If you really want, you can dress them up with colorful ribbons that you can tie around the top. But I wouldnt cover them completly with chair covers as that might be too formal a look from what you want.
And btw, the chairs look really nice.

Do you sew? You can make little slipcovers or cases for just the top part of the back of the chair.
You can pick out a fabric pattern that will work with your decor.
You will see the same chairs in this carnival themed wedding. With the bright colored linens, the chairs are hardly noticeable.

Are you using any specific colors or just a bunch of them to go with the theme?
If using a variety, why not wrap sashes around each chair back to break up all the brown? They are cheap to buy and would really brighten things up.
This is the way we did them for a beach wedding, and used large white starfish in the centers. In your case, I’m sure you could come up with a little something to embellish them.

Thanks everyone! some good suggestions so far to go with. I like the idea of a sash, but Im not sure how it would look on a brown chair – they look so good on white ones!! Maybe I can get them to give us a chair so we can take it for some test runs, lol!
I don’t sew, but my ma can, so I might look into the fabric option – I like some of the ones you chose! Im going with several vibrant colours, so that could definitely work. I might do solid coloured rather than a pattern, but I could use a few different colours to make the room pop. Hope my mom doesnt mind, lol!

I vote for leave them as is, but if you do want to cover them then I saw this idea on Rachel Ray a few months ago:
You can buy cheap pillow cases as a thrift store or ebay, in the colours you want and just slip them over the back of the chair and tie with ribbon/sash.

I would either leave them or tie some ribbons on them either vertically or horizontally. But honestly, they wouldn’t be bad as is for what you’re going for. I definitely wouldn’t go with tradtional chair covers.
If you do go with chair covers, I would do the spandex ones. They’re a little more fun and interesting and sort of remind me of a carnival tent? 🙂 Here’s one on a folding chair.

interesting Ideas ladies!!
The carnival tent feeling – hilarious! I never thought of that, but I totally see it. I also really like the multiple ribbon idea!! Don’t know if I would have enough time to decorate all the chairs like that… hopefully if they let me in the hall a couple days early it might be do able, because it is really cute and colourful!
But I’m kinda glad a lot of you think it would be cool to leave the chairs be!! haha. It definitely helps reassure me that if chair decos are not in my budget, that it won’t be the end of the world!
