Another suggestion might be chargers in place of. That is what we are doing.

I would buy paper dinner napkins (don’t get square ones, make sure to get rectangular ones) and place those on the table with your cutlery – either wrap your cutlery in them or place your cutlery on top.

At each place setting, you could print a crossword, like you mentioned, or a madlib page (can be really funny and great to keep as an extra guest book of sorts) or, what I am doing is printing out a thank you note that I will place at each spot. Then you can put your favour at the top of the card.

    My thank you notes:

You could use colored paper doilies instead of a charger plate.

Green polka dot round paper doilies . 26.5cms (10.5 inch)

You could even make them do double duty by writing the guest’s names on them to serve as a placecard

@lilhenry89:  I would use the doily like a charger, place a folded navy blue napkin to the left of the doily, place the cutlery as you would normally set the table, then set your favor jar above the knife where the glass would normally go.

If you don’t write the names on the doilies, I would set the favor in the middle of the doily.

    Found the doilies here:

@lilhenry89:  I think navy or white napkins, personally.

I like the PP’s idea of doilies. Just make sure they are large enough circumference – about the same diameter of a dinner plate – or they’ll look silly.
