Hello Ladies!! I’m looking for advice…and I know all of you have wonderful ideas that can lead me in the right direction. This is a long one…be prepared for some reading! 😉
I’m planning our April 29th wedding (2011) and we decided on a 1940’s theme. We want this wedding to be special, as they all should be. But we have an interesting story (then again, who doesn’t?). We’re actually already married, we got married on the beach in Jamaica last september, 2 weeks before his deployment to Iraq. We were alone, and didn’t realize how important it would be to us to have everyone there. Now we’re doing a vowel renewal when he gets home and we’re treating it like our first and only wedding. God I miss him…anyway…
He’s an Army Pilot so his uniform is what he’ll be wearing for the wedding and it’s navy blue and light blue with a gold stripped pant. I thought peacock feathers incoprorated into the wedding colors would help to pull his (and his groomsmen’s) uniform into the wedding. I wanted to have black calla lillies in my bouquet (the dark eggplant purple colored ones). The venue is an old mansion with a lot of old beautiful wood work. The venue supplies gold chiavari chairs with black coushins (they’re in great shape and free..can’t pass that up), and they look best with black table cloths (also provided for free from venue) in the space. Now the hard part…
How do I make peacock feathers, black, a touch of gold, and dark eggplant purple all work together? I can change the colors to teal and blue with touches of eggplant (in the flowers only) but the table cloths are going to stay black. I can get overlays that would look beautiful with them, and I saw a mock up of a crushed sheer gold overlay that looked so good with the gold chairs. But I’m worried it will look tacky because I can’t come up with centerpieces that encorporate our colors and the peacock feathers.
Whats interesting is I had already decided on peacock feathers before I saw the venue, having never been there I couldn’t wait to go check it out once I heard about it. As I stepped into the main ballroom I looked up, and on the 20 foot celieng there was a hand painted peacock stretching across the entire ceiling! It was like it was meant to be or something!!
So, any ideas on color schemes, centerpieces, and making this whole thing work would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I’ve exhausted google images and I haven’t seen anything yet that feels right for us. If anyone has pictures of their wedding with similar colors or themes please share!! I’de love to see them and get inpiration from your weddings!!
P.S. I just bought the Something Blue satin pump from Manolo Blahnik to wear at the wedding. I havn’t even bought a dress yet! Hahahahaha! But I love them so much and the brooch on the top of the shoe is just so vintage but still modern I can’t stand it! Talk about perfection. It’s just one small detail in this big day and I’m having a hard time pulling it together in my head. Haven’t chose the flourist yet so I have a lot of options.
Here’s the shoes…oh, I just melt!! Here’s the dresses I’m thinking about a well. Have to try them on to see what works with my body type of course…
