Great idea! I’m not using many Delaware vendors, but I am using Toscana Catering for the wedding and Toscana Kitchen and Bar for the rehearsal dinner, Delaware Museum of Natural History (for the venue), Jennifer’s for the dress, Sherif Zaki for hair and makeup, Montchanin Inn for our wedding night and pictures, and Sheraton Suites for the room block.

I’ve found that a few Delaware vendors (Liz Marden and Flowers by Yukie come to mind) who I’ve dealt with have somewhat of a "big fish in a small pond" syndrome and will quote you up the wazoo for things that shouldn’t cost nearly as much. Liz Marden quoted me $500 over another baker for the exact same cake design, and Flowers by Yukie quoted me over $2500 than another florist for the exact same floral design. I’m using a few Philly-based vendors (Cakes by Suzy and Flowers by Mary Elizabeth) for this reason!

…though my mom thinks that they just didn’t want to work with a "difficult" bride. =)

I have a sheet of my vendors here but don’t have comments for most of them yet:

I’ll fill it out after the wedding (only 17 more days!)

Rebecca, your wedding sounds lovely. Toscana has great food. Did you do a hair trial yet? I’ve heard mixed reviews on Sherif. My mom wants me to go there, but I heard the stylists don’t listen to what the brides want.

Thanks, Miss Ruffles! The person doing my hair is the girl who does my mom’s hair and who did my hair throughout high school/when I went home for college, so I have a pretty good relationship with her (Jordan). That’s why I’m not using Sherif himself though, as he pretty much went to town on my mom during a haircut a few years ago without giving her any say. The rest of my bridesmaids are just getting blowouts, so I don’t think you can mess that up too much. =) My hair trial is in July, so I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hi there!

I am using Belak Flowers on Philadelphia Pike as my Florist, and I have to say, they are probably my favorite vendor so far- came in way under budget, and had great ideas.  Barb has a wonderful rep and is great to work with.

I got my dress from Brides and Grooms in Newark, as are my girls.  They were great; great prices, great help, really knew what they were doing.

I will most likely get my veil from either Brides and Grooms or Jennifer’s in Hockessin (gorgeous veils there!).  We might also check out Simon’s in Dover.

We are having our ceremony at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington; beautiful stone church, gothic style sanctuary, and the church where my parents and grandparents were married.  It’s also where Fiance and I originally met (tho we are not members there anymore).

We are having our reception at Executive Banquet and Conference Center in Newark, off 896.  Brand new facility, great prices, and Brad has bent over backwards to help us.  You get so much with the packages- cake, colored linens, centerpieces, open bar (we are doing only beer and wine, which is 8 of each), 5 hour reception, bridal suite, etc.

Our wedding night is at the Hotel Dupont, but that is a wedding gift from my MOH/Sister, so I have not dealt with them myself.

We are using Trilogy Salon, on Kirkwood Hwy, for makeup and hair.  My mom and I go to Jeremy, who is wonderful and very knowledgable and fashionable, but that’s the only reason that we are going there.  If we were going based on their customer service reputation, we would be somewhere else and not look back; they have been horrible to get ahold of and have really put me through the gauntlet.  I want Jeremy for my hair, though, so I put up with it.

We are using Belles and Beaus Photography (Nicole Curran) for photog- she came recommended thru Autism Delaware as someone who knows how to work well with children with Autism (our Ring Bearer is severe).  She is very affordable (most photogs today are so overpriced), her work is good, and she has a great attitude.

We are using Apropos in Greenville for invitations; I know several brides (family, family friends, and brides from the DE Knot board) who have gone there and were extremely happy.  We weren’t willing to spend the money on a DIY look or pocketfold, and I wasn’t willing to do the time required for DIY.  We also wanted a very traditional and classic vibe for our wedding, and wanted the invites to reflect that.  Apropos will work with you, work with you, work with you to get everything perfect- from finding a more affordable lookalike invite to the over the top one you were dreaming about, to the wording, to the caligraphy.  They also offer 20% off the list price of any invite.

We are using Tom Barrett for our DJ; they were the cheapest around, and after doing research on them, have heard only good things about them in both Philly and Wilmington.

We are doing a candy buffet and a donation for favors, and are doing all the work ourselves (getting the glassware from yard sales/consignment shops/thrift stores, getting the candy from BJs/Costco/Sam’s Club/Oriental Trading/Harry Kenyon’s in Wilmington/Byler’s in Dover/Nut’s 2 You in Philly) and are making the cards for everything ourselves (my sister/matron and I are scrapbookers and plan on putting our items to use!).

These are all the ones that I have for now; I am currently working on limo, videography, rehearsal dinner, and all that fun stuff.  If you want more info on any vendor, email me at [email protected].  GL!

Hey, msbriarrose!  Welcome to the Bee!  I recognize you from the Knot DE boards (although I mostly lurk there, the ladies there are so much nicer than most of the other Knot boards).  We’re getting married at St. Nicholas in Wilmington and our reception is at Greenville Country Club.  I’m also working on rehearsal dinner and transportation, but it looks like I’m a bit behind you in my planning!

I got my dress at Bridal & Tuxedo Shoppe in Newark… and everyone there was absolutely lovely.  Invitations are TBD at the moment… I was considering DIY, but my dad’s wife “knows a guy” so we’re going to see what his prices are like (in Jersey).  My DJ is Jenny Z Mobile DJ Service.  She’s a part-time fill-in DJ over at WSTW, and super sweet.  Photographer is Paul R Lutes Creative… he’s fairly new to the industry, so his prices are great.  He did my cousin’s wedding last October, and they came out GORGEOUS.  I’m most likely getting my hair done at Todd’s Salon in Wilmington.  That’s where I go now, and I can’t imagine I’d go somewhere else.  Unless my stylist changes salons!  Makeup most likely by Lisa Fiorenza… local makeup artist.

The ceremony is going to be at Sacred Heart Oratory in Wilmington, and the reception is at the Clarion Belle Hotel in New Castle.  I haven’t met with florists yet, but Brinton (Bill’s) Flowers is at the top of my list.  They were wonderful when my friend passed away two years ago, and ended up going out of their way to find me lilies on Veteran’s Day.  Also haven’t met with cake decorators yet, but Serpe’s Bakery and Sweets To You by Ginger are at the top of that list.

Does anyone have any comments regarding Cielo Spa/Salon? It’s close to Hotel DuPont and looks wonderful. The reviews online are all great too. I live in Orange County, CA so finding someone to do hair/make up across the country is going to be tricky!

Thanks!

I haven’t been to Cielo, but we got ready at the Hotel DuPont and my hair and makeup artists came to us.  For hair I used Natalie Pagano (http://www.hair-bynatalie.com), and for makeup, Emily at Cheekadee (http://www.cheekadee.com).  They were both fantastic and I would highly recommend them.  They are in Philly, and are very popular, so if you’re interested, I would contact them early.  Good luck with your planning!  Smile

I’ve been to Cielo for facials (not hair or make-up) and was really pleased.
