I didn’t actually have any work done, but I had a dentists appointment when I was about 6 weeks pregnant. So no medication but he did x-ray my teeth and said it was completely safe.

@araneidae:  hello, I work in a dental office as a dental assistant and we use septocaine and carbocaine. The difference between those and lidocaine is the epinephrine, which for some people can make their heart race. The carbocaine which is the mepivacaine does not have the epinephrine in it, so that would be your safest option, but I would talk to your OB and see what they recommend.

@angela85:  In the first trimester, X-rays should only be done if it is an emergency such as a toothache or possibly sign of infection. The patient should also have 2 aprons one on the front and one on the back. Other than a sign of infection, it is not recommend to have X-rays in the first trimester.
