Hey mil bees,
My Fiance has 2 friends from the Academy that he holds very close to his heart. One of them in particular I really love. He is a really sweet guy and very loyal to my Fiance. I love that Fiance has a friend like him. Fiance and I picked our wedding date prior to actually getting engaged for real real 🙂 And all of his friends knew. After the proposal (all of our friends flew to FL to be there for it) this friend informed us that he will be getting deployed to Afganistan. His actual job is a secret… but his field is very dangerous (I am sure that all jobs are dangerous over there but.. just trust me on this one). Oh- he will be in Afganistan for our wedding and be back in October. After the proposal trip Fiance and I came home and I had a good cry over it.. Not because he cant be at the wedding.. but just because.. After he told everyone…a thought just poped into my head that this could be the last time we were all together… Like.. he could go there and never come back… Anywho, before I make myself TOO sad.. I am looking for a way to have him at the wedding without him actually being there.. some way to acknowledge him at the wedding. Something that wouldn’t seem too morbid. I am thinking something like a cardboard cutout lol Any suggestions?

@MrsNeutrino: Do a lot of your guests know him?
Maybe you could have a friend come around recording a message to him saying how much they wish he could be there to enjoy the party?
Also, the cardboard cut out seems funny! You could take him around and take pics with it! Or you could photoshop him into pics and send him an album!

@tranquility: The whole bridal party knows him.. but most not that well. Thats a really good idea though. Maybe something informal.. because we are not having a video taken of our wedding at all! Maybe we could pass that chore on to one of the grooms men:) I was thinking about even having the cardboard cut out of him in some pro wedding pics! lol

My fiance is military and we attended a wedding a few months ago where they had asked a guy to be a groomsmen but he was deployed shortly after. IN the program they wrote his name with the groomsmen and at the bottom the program they wrote his name and said although he can not be with us today, he remins in our thoughts and prayers as he completes his deployment in afghanistan.
