I’m having my hair and makeup done by the same person/vendor on location. I’m paying the deposit ahead of time and this covers just the hair and make trial. This was about 50% of the day-of price. Then if I like it, then I will pay ahead of time for my day-of hair and makeup so everything is good to go. My vendor is set up with an online payment system so they ask for full payments for everyone ahead of time. Each person can pay separately unless there are multiple people in one discounted package in which case, those people have to pool their money and pay in one lump sum. I think asking for at least partial payment ahead of time is normal as they are probably bringing in extra staff or declining other people to accomodate for your party and they need some kind of insurance that you will all show up.

I also paid a deposit for my hair and makeup (two seperate vendors with two seperate deposit)  I also signed a contract with both of them to lock in our date.

I had to pay in full for my makeup artist 30 days prior to wedding. I wrote her a check, and am just going to have everyone pay me back

Oh, I forgot to add, my deposit for the hair stylist was only $100 (6 people getting their hair done) and I had to pay for half of the total services for my makeup artist.

I paid a deposit of $50. It was a base price and I don’t think it mattered how many people came.

@mkim:  Not to threadjack, but who was your hair stylist and MUA??  I’ve started looking, and the prices make me want to cry…
