Hi ladies –
I have a ring from my grandmother and a ring from my mother and I want to use them to make my engagement ring. I have no idea about how to go about this. Also, the diamond sizes and colors are different and I’m hesitant it won’t look right. But, I’m super sentimental and not a jewelery person to begin with, so it’s the significance that matters most. Do we take it to a jeweler and get a quote? Is it more expensive to go this route? Help!

Definitely bring them to a few jewelers and get comparison prices/styles for what they would make!

Just a thought, but maybe instead of trying to combine them in the same ring, perhaps use one for your e-ring and one for a pendant? Or maybe if one is smaller you could incorporate one into the wedding band?
I’m having a custom e-ring made, and literally if you can dream it they can do it! I recommend Schubach’s. A lot of people use them for moissanite jewelry, but they do amazing custom work with all types of stones. Here’s a link to their website: http://shopping.schubachstore.com/custom-designs

I am having a ring made through CustomMade.com. I uploaded inspiratio pics and a description, and it matches you with designers. I spoke with mine for about a month before we decided to go ahead with the project.
I was given 3 diamonds from family, all different sizes/cuts/colors. (2 are roughly 1 carat, the other is about 0.5 carats).
My designer/jeweler is making a 3 stone, with the larger stones on the outside, and the center stone set into a halo (to mimic the size of the other 2). I am not worried about the stones appearing different, as each has its own story (the outer stones are from SO’s family, the center was my mother’s).
If the sentimentality means more, go for it! I can’t wait to wear my ‘family’ ring!
