We aren’t doing a theme, per se, but we’re leaning on a vintage/retro look for things. We were concerned that too deliberate a theme could make it hard to match things unless we bought everything from the same place. So we’re doing 40’s-50’s vintage (ex. going for that era in dress and suit, using mid-century fonts, re-using my parents’ cake topper), and our colors are a range of greens and blues. It’s not overtly Mad Men, but the popularity of that show has made it much easier for us to find things we like!

You might get ideas by browsing some of the wedding retail sites, like Weddingstar, to see what’s out there and get ideas. It can be a flower, or a kind of location (beach, garden, lake), or a time period, or anything you like. Of course, if you do see a theme you like and want it to be simple, you can just buy whole sets of things that go together, and it will all look cohesive.

Good luck!

I’m not sure that you really NEED a theme.  I didn’t have one.  I just picked colors and tied everything in that way.  And, we thought about what kind of wedding we wanted (outdoors, rustic/rural, smallish) and tailored our choices accordingly.  The venue you choose does a lot to set the tone.

I agree…I don’t think you need a theme!  My theme developed just based on the color scheme.  We are going to incorporate personalized elements as well to punch things up, but don’t stress about having a specific theme.

I think your colors and decor will tie it together… Heck, your theme can simply be fun, casual, whimsical, us πŸ™‚

Definitely don’t need a theme!  I had about 3-4 themes going on between, Dutch, gamer-geek chic, us, etc.  πŸ˜›  They all ended up working together perfectly!  πŸ™‚

As a side note, what about doing something fun like this as centerpieces or food table decor:

Over all, just have fun!  πŸ™‚

How about “Love is in the AIR”?

Lots of balloons, paper lanterns, etc?

Congrats!

@bbqtobe:  You could do “Love is in the Air” and draw peacock colors… So bright purples, blues, and greens?

Or… What colors are your sneakers?  You could use your shoes as an inspiration for colors
