Why don’t you go to Catalina Island?  It’s right off the coast near LA and I think you can take a ferry over.  I’ve never been but I saw it on the travel channel and it looked perfect for a weekend getaway.  I’m pretty sure they’d have a spa.

Fiance and i love the Glen Ivy Spa.  you can get a day pass for pretty cheap, and we’ll get that and a hotel for a couple nights and have a wonderful, relaxing time.

Have you thought about Santa Barbara? It’s a short drive up the coast and really beautiful 🙂 San Diego would be a nice little get away too.

I also agree with @kericita, Catalina Island is cute and perfect for a weekend getaway.

Can I ask what area of LA you live in? I live in the Southbay and we have some cute little hotels by the beach that are probably much cheaper than Catalina.

However, because you are looking at Memorial Day Weekend everything is going to be a little pricey.

Temecula is a wine region in Northern San Diego.  You can stay at the Pala Casino for near $100 a night.  The Temecula Creek in is also very cute.  And there are a ton of wineries that are between 5 and 10 dollars for tastings…

I didn’t mean Pala, I meant Pechanga…it’s the nicest casino I’ve been to and Fiance and I always stay there when we go wine tasting.

Santa Barbara is great–I just came back from a weekend in Solvang, but the prices will be high for a holiday weekend. Temecula might be less expensive.

You could try the Country Inn and Suites in Ventura. http://www.countryinns.com/venturaca  It is walking distance to the beach and to downtown Ventura, which has a lot of nice resturants and some shopping. There is are several day spas downtown, such as  http://www.michaelkelleysalon.com/ and http://site.venturaskinhut.com/Services.html

It’s a short drive up to Ojai from Ventura, which has hiking and bike trails as well as a downtoan area. If you like wine tasting, you could try http://www.wineweb.com/scripts/directionsPg.cfm?w=38704 in Ojai.

You can also drive up to Santa Barbara from Ventura for more beaches, shopping, etc. I have also heard that http://www.innonthebeachventura.com/ in Ventura is nice, but have never stayed there.

We used to live in Carlsbad. My future sister in law once stayed at La Costa Resort and Spa and said it was amazing! Not sure how spendy it is thought. Temecula as mentioned before is also a great mini destination. Temecula Creek Inn has a great winery. Hmmm have you looked in to places in La Jolla? The cliffs near Torrey Pines overlooking the ocean are GORGEOUS and make for a great hike or romantic picnic-that’s where my fiance proposed! Or what about somewhere in Del Mar? The downtown area is so cute and quant. There might be good bed and breakfast places there. I worked in Solana beach and they have a wonderful beach and some great little eateries and shops. Also, if you have anyone you know that is a Marine there are cottages on the base right on the beach that are newer and great for relaxation. You can have your own fire right on the beach behind your oceanfront cottage. The only downfall to that is you have to reserve them a ways out. Cowles Mountain is a great hike in San Diego-beautiful views of the city if you are in to that as well. I hope this helps a little!!
